Hey guys the rod I have for bigger bucktails and rubber has a S60 on it and I'm considering changing the power handle to a double paddle handle. My reasoning is so I can pickup line faster while fishing rubber.

My concern is that I'm going to be miserable throwing double tens without that power handle. I would love to have a dedicated rubber rod and hope to someday, but it doesn't fit my budget right now.

Has anyone fished a S60 with paddles and thrown double 9s and 10s? If so any feedback or advice?

Thanks everyone

Also I wouldn't be against other reel suggestions, but they would have to be under 200 and be available for lefty

You'll regret having the paddles as soon as you start throwing bucktails or big crankbaits.

Bring both handles in the boat. Pretty easy swap. Or just use the power handle to pick up slack line. It's not that bad.

The maxtoro is a lower dollar reel that works great as well. I really like mine.

I had the double paddle on for a while. IT SUCKS! I now use an unbalanced Beast power handle it fits the S60 square design. If you want an easy in the boat swap out handle this one has three setting options on one handle and you don't have to get used to the smaller paddle grip. About a $25.00 upgrade.

I actually prefer the bigger handle knob for fishing rubber too. I find I pull slightly on the handle while working rubber and the bigger knob seems to help stabilize things well. I feel I have a little less power and control ripping baits hard when using a regular paddle handle.

I was in the same boat for a few years and I think you’ll find the power handle to be more versatile

One more option. The Beast and Rocket both come with 3 handles.(weighted Power, jigging, and double). If you lay the double and power next to each other you will see the distance from the center hole to the actual knob hole is the same. (Same mechanical advantage) Also if you like the big knobs like many do, you can remove all the knobs from all the handles and install 2 large knobs on the double handle. You then end up with a double handle with large knobs that mechanically functions the same as a power handle. STRANGE. Again this is another option that may or may not work for you. I also realize the OP was referring to an S, but both the Beast and Rocket handles fit the S (which only comes with the power handle)and nobody uses all 3 handles at the same time so I am sure if you asked you could find them.

Enjoy your day.

Brad

I think an important thing to take from Brad's post above is the double paddle handle and balanced power handle are the same length. So going to the double paddle handle really shouldn't allow you to be any faster - it just has smaller grips to hold.
