Boron rods were popular in the late '70's and '80's. I had a few and thought they were good. Never see 'em now, why?

While more sensitive that Graphite they were stiffer and had a tendency to "blow up" when put under heavy duress. Like many things they were a good concept that in the long haul did not translate in to a good tool when used in real life situations...
