Posts: 1084 Location: Aurora | Try a search here or even a general search on google. There's video of muskies swimmin around holding/eating dead fish. Here's one thread from the past on this very topic: http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=61...

Posts: 319 Location: Tomahawk,Wis | I have caught muskies on chunks of dead fish fishing for sturgeon.... Also in the fall when the suckers are dead and thrown off the dock laying on the bottom... In the morning they are usually cleaned up and gone...

thanks to both of you.i have no plan at all to target musky during ice fishing , i was just curious, for now no accidental musky with dead baits.but imo pike like most fish seems to highly prefer the one that move.most of the time when feeding frenzy start and just a few tipup don't move at all,it's usually because the baits are dead then i put a new one and bang

Posts: 2259 Location: SE, WI. | Local bait shops sometimes throw their dead suckers off the docks and have watched musky swim up, turn their head sideways, and slurp up dead suckers. Some guys in Northern Wisconsin, fishing my cork tail, paddle tails, dead stick these tall standing creatures, and ski's, pick the plastics off the bottom also. Not ski's obviously, but many pike anglers through the ice catch pike with frogs in their stomachs. The pike root out these reptiles in the muck... All fish are Bottom feeders!!! JD

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Once i only had a dead sucker left when fishing in the fall so figured i might as well run it. We did have one take it. Didn't hookup and land it, but if all I have is dead suckers I'll certainly run them.

Posts: 390 | Think of it this way plastic lures are not alive and Muskies eat it all the time, key to dead sucker is to keep it moving even if just slightly, if it moves its food.

Posts: 53 Location: Manchester.UK | Static Deadbait fishing is buy far the most popular type of fishing for Northern pike in the UK through winter, more fish caught using it than any other method

I got a 50" on a dead sucker on a lake that doesn't have many 50"+ fish. I ran out of suckers and all I had left was a dead sucker that I had already caught a fish on earlier in the day. It's nice when you can catch 2 muskies on one sucker.

Posts: 72 | Deadbait is one of the best methods here in Europe for big pike especially in late fall and winter. Live bait used to be allowed when I was younger but they banned it about 20 year ago. Caught a lot of fish on live bait and it is more fun than deadbaiting but the bigger fish fall to the deadbait most of the time. A deadly method is to feed them with deadbait. Throw a few dead fish on a produktive spot every 3 days on Oktober and present a dead bait there in November. You will be suprised.
