Posts: 238 | Has anyone had bad luck with these like me? I have attended seminars by Joe bucher and Greg Thomas both really pushed these. I tried one last season ripping a 10" Jake and the bait came off once on the cast and once while I was ripping it. Also seemed like it loosened up after taking baits on and off several times. I went back to snaps after that and am considering just attaching leader to lure with split ring.

Posts: 303 Location: Not where I want to be! | To me they are not worth the risk. Just how much time are you saving in a day? 2-3 minutes at the most. Stay locs are not that difficult to use. Better safe than sorry.

Posts: 600 | I have built leaders with these and they work well for trolling but not for anything else. I still prefer stay lock snaps and change them out frequently.

Posts: 962 | I would highly recommend not using these for musky. Had a customer bring his own rod and reel with one of the Fastach snaps on his leader. I questioned him on it he said they were great. 2 hours later I was netting a 39" fish for him and as I netted it I thought his line broke because he flipped back with his rod with no lure attached as I was netting the Musky, Luckily I just barely got fish scooped. Turned out the Fastach snap broke or opened up (see picture) It was the first day he used that leader and it was a major brand- I will not let them be used in my boat anymore. Not sure why others would promote these they are horrible. I have talked to others that have had failures also Jeff Hanson madisonmuskyguide.com Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 2376 Location: Chisholm, MN | I'm switching to split rings entirely this season. Staylocks are pretty good, but I've had one failure and say another happen. Both lost expensive baits, luckily no fish were harmed.

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | We have offered Fastach Snaps by Stringease as an OPTION on our leaders for a few years now due to the demand of people requesting them, along with other snap and connecting options as well. Our standard and what we feel is the most secure option has always been a Stringease Staylock. The Fastach snaps are not the quality of a Stringease Staylock and we do our best to educate people on them when they request them especially at shows where we have one on one interaction. A #5 Fastach Snap carries a rating of 150# vs a #5 Staylock that carries a 300# rating. I have alot of customers who swear by them, while I have had plenty of others express having issues with them. I personally recommend sticking with Stringease Staylocks or using a Solid Ring to ensure the highest percentage of not having an issue, and highly recommend changing out your Staylocks often. Unfortunately we are in a gimmick driven industry.

Location: 31 | I've been making my own version of the Sampo snap for over 20 years with a 360lb .043 gauge bronze wire... very easy to make, and much stronger than any snap you can purchase by a wide margin. The only difference between the snap I make and the Sampo is that I make them with a longer tag end so it takes a deliberate act to open them like the Stayloc. You could easily copy any snap design you prefer with a high-quality heavier gauge wire… if you make your own leaders (and prefer a snap over a split ring), you can also make the snaps with a little practice.

Posts: 983 | This blows my mind I started using these last season. used them a lot and never had any issues...had snags multiple fish landed throw everything from 1oz bucktail to a pounder with these fast attach...I make my own but never has one failed me..have had few store bought ones and use mustad to make mine...very interesting you have me questioning now and I love them no fighting to get bait on a leader

Posts: 4266 | I don't use any snaps. I opt to make my own leaders and leave a loop on one end. I put splitrings on all of my lures and simply thread them on the loop. I've had every type of snap open, but I have never opened a splitring.

Posts: 20248 Location: oswego, il | Like Jerry said you can make your own snaps. I have made a few stayloc snaps from heavy wire with a bigger tag end and the loop presses to keep the snap closed. Not hard at all to make if you have round pliers.

Posts: 9 Location: Perrysburg Ohio | I have used the Fastach's for about 5 years now with never a single failure under normal use. I only use them for trolling. For casting I use single strand and crosslocks. The only time I have had one fail was on a snag and using a lure retriever. I use the large #5 Fastach's.
