Posts: 528 | Has anyone used on of the Minnkota DC Alternator chargers before? I'm thinking of giving one a try... I'm wondering if it would be enough to maintain the batteries on an extended trip where access to electricity might not be available. Positives or negatives welcome... (no pun intended)

Location: Contrarian Island | they work awesome... I would not rely on it though for multiple days. when we are on LOTW running around all day it keeps my batteries fairly charged, often times coming in at the end of the night with full bars, or 3 bars minimum, but if you are on smaller water, where you don't run as much I would not count on it to keep you full.. could you go say 3 days w out plugging in probably...but not something I would rely on 100% ... they are a must have in my opinion and surprised more guys don't run them especially on lakes like LOTW...best $125 I have spent on the boat. Posts: 1095 Location: Hayward, WI | Depends on what motor you are running too. You need to have a higher amp charging system for them to work properly.

Posts: 286 Location: Eagan, MN | I put one in a couple summers ago and would recommend one if you fish waters where you run the big motor a lot. I can't keep my batts fully charged with them, but there is a noticeable difference in power left at the end of the day.

Location: Contrarian Island | yah it's not to keep them at 100% but it sure is nice piece of mind when it's blowing that you can pull up to any spot and crank the TM knowing you are going to make another big run to charge them... battery issues or lack of power is one of the biggest things that can end a good day early... no thanks.

Location: Eastern Ontario | So trolling on my 20HP Suzuki kicker is not going to do much for me? My big motor really gets very little running.

Posts: 134 | Ran one for the last 5+ years, and 2 boats, sold it when I sold my last boat and there is a new one in a box getting ready to go into my new boat. Best reasonable $ you can spend. Won't keep you from needing to recharge but will make batteries last longer. went from batteries being completely drained to having plenty of power left at the end of the day.
