Location: SE Wisc | I’m sure this topic has come up before many times in the past but I’m looking to buy a new rod for heavy plastics. I’ve been using a St. Croix premier Xh 8’6” and it’s great for mag dawgs and similar weighted baits but doesn’t seen stiff enough for pounders. I don’t throw pounders as much so I dont want to spend much more than $200. Are my only options the Toothtamer xxxh, ti xxh, and Muskie innovations pro? Is there another option? If not, which of these do you prefer? |

| could check out the chaos tackle Rod they are in that price range and have a big rubber rod |

| i have a 9 foot Tackle Industry rod..i think it's the XXL. for under $200, the best pounder rod available.
email them from their website, they can tell you which one is the best pounder rod. i went with this rod, and my budget (for a pounder rod) was twice yours..and i still got the Tackle Industry rod. been using them for pounders now for 3 years. i would, 100%, get a split grip. really really helps with casting them..a lot.

| I find the TI XXH to soft for pounders, it can trow it yes, but i would get something heavier, if it is to be your main heavy rubber rod  |

| I have the 9'6" telescopic Chaos rod and that think works great for big rubber. won't be disappointed if you go that route. |

| I think its personal preference, in general iv'e had better hookup/landing ratio with the faster/stiffer rods, compared to the slower action type rods.
Best thing to do would get out an try casting both and see whats fits your style, if you know someone who have the different style of rods

Location: midwest | Slower /softer rods cast easier and help keep fish hooked. Stiffer rods drive hooks better and are great if you fight fish very aggressively. If you fight fish where you start cranking on the hookset and never let off then the stiffer blank will work well. If you "play fish" then the softer rod blank will allow you to land more fish. No rod blank style is better than the other. Just give some thought as to how you fight fish. |

I find the TI XXH to soft for pounders, it can trow it yes, but i would get something heavier, if it is to be your main heavy rubber rod :)
Tackle Industries does have a 9ft XXXH rated to 32oz, definitely not too soft. |

| The probleme with the tixxxh is that I finde it overpowered for pounders, it is perfect for 2 pounders and 16inch line thru trouts |

That XXXH is a beast for sure! If you want a true dedicated pounder rod go with the Tackle Industries XXH for sure. An all NEW Vexan BIG GAME rod in XXH with casting reel seat setup with be out soon too. Very similar blank to the TI musky edition but different handles and the color is a very cool iridescent blue. |

I have been trying to find out if those Vexan XXH rods, spinning and casting, are 1 piece or two piece.
Also, I agree that the 9ft TI XXH rods are great pounder rods; mine are paired with Komodo 471SS's. I throw Monster Medusas with the rod all the time; the nice thing about the rod is that it still handles lures down too 4oz fairly well which allows me to fish regular Medusas on the same set up. |

They sound like excellent rods, hopefully you are able to make a couple 2 piece versions in the future. Heavy powered 2 piece travel rods capable of landing large sharks are very hard to come by. The 2 piece musky rods you make are excellent, just hopeful for a few spinning versions. |
