Anyone out there using this successfully? I've never tossed a bait that led to so many follows and surface boils. It's my new confidence bait for action, but no hook-ups. It almost seems as though they're missing it. In a few instances, they missed it three times in one cast! I've tried slow, medium and fast retrieves with the same results.

I really like this bait. I use it so the side to side movement is very tight, and medium speed. Most of the fish that have hit it for me the last two years including 3 pike over 20# now, have pinned up well.

It's a little tiring to use, but I like it too. What type of leader do you use? I was throwing it with my jerkbait rod, which had a solid leader on it. The action was great... just kept missing 'em.

I love to fish the Doc, have had several follows and a few hookups on it. I use it at verying speeds but medium speed has provided more hook ups with a tight side to side motion ( same as Steve). I have had one hit it as many as four times in one throw and hooked on the fourth hit. She really wanted it. All but two took the center hook

I would have to second SW on the "tight" side to side action. I have found that with the DOC, Jackpot, Top Prey and other similar lures, that my hooking rate is in the upper 90% when I use short sharp pops from a 6' rod. You want the head to toss back and forth, but try to keep the tail coming in at almost a straight line. They can hit the lure much better if it is holding a tighter pattern. I have seen the same low percenyage when I really pop the lures and let them glide wide. Too much side to side on the top waters will make them miss.

Good Luck -- Keep walking the dog, just use a shorter leash.

Just got a really nice fish....51"plus on a Doc for me the best time to put it in the game is when the water is a bit rough for the other walk the dog baits. This fish hit in about 1.5 foot rollers and I don't think a jackpot or viper would have been "loud" enough. Also the Doc will work with a bit of weed hung on it due to its stronger action as we area all aware pretty much any weed kills a Jackpot.

what colors do you guys mainly use? I have a black one and have only thrown it a few times but it did produce one strike. I was just wondering what colors you guys throw.

Thanks

Jake,
Now that would be a "trick question" for me.

While I do , of course, use my own custom colors first and foremost,I would say that the standard perch and firetigers are a good place to get started. They are always good colors to start with then progress as you want after that.
How about it guys? Give the gentleman some insight on color selection.
Tight lines,

If you are loosing fish due to them hitting the head of the lure. (suspendo's like to do this) you can add an extra hook to the bait in the following manner.

Use thin wire .013-.020 tie one end to the front eye. Half way between the front eye and the first hook hanger attach a split ring w/hook. Then add another piece of wire between the split ring and front hook hanger.

This will increase your percentages if the fish are hitting the head. It will also get the bait to ride a touch lower in the water creating more of a "swoosh" to its action.

Doc is a great bait, don't give up on it.
