Posts: 228 Location: Downers Grove, IL | I'm heading up to the Big Chip next week for 5 days and could use any advice anyone out there is willing to share. Structure to work, baits, spots are all greatly appreciated! Wish me luck...I hear it's a tough place to fish for a first timer! Thanks in advance. Jeff Sevcik

Posts: 12 | Jeff, What dates are you going to the flowage? We have a place on the west side and will also be up on 9/6 (late) til 9/12. If these are the dates you will be there, we could hook up and show you the seven strand leaders, etc. Where are you staying? Yes, there is quite a learning curve to the flowage, and it still shows us "Who's the Boss" most of the time. But its worth it.

Posts: 440 | I just returned from a three run on the flowage and surrounding lakes. I was on the flowage about 10 hrs so I don't have the best info. We moved fish on Pacemakers, bucktails and Dropbelly Slammers the fish were in green weeds and you will have to look to find them. They seem to be relating the edges of the bars.

Posts: 477 Location: Iowa | I was up there with Chad G, and about all I can add is pay attention to the the little things. River channels, points, and weed beds. Also, don't be afraid to switch baits to find what might turn them on. I saw fish follow up several different types of baits, but we couldn't seem to find what most of them wanted to actually eat.

Posts: 12 | We are on the other side of the world. We're at Tiger Musky. If you want we can meet you at Treeland's on the 11th (Thursday) at noon. We'll be the husband and wife team rolling up in a blue and white alum. Ranger. Map in hand and a box of leader junk. If this time works let me know.

Posts: 228 Location: Downers Grove, IL | Northbound - Sounds great! But if you want to meet me somewhere in between our two locations, that's fine. Otherwise, Treelands @ noon on Thursday. I'll be with at least one other friend - I usually wear my lucky red hat - see you then and thanks! Jeff

Posts: 532 Location: Chicago, IL | I just got back from a week on the Chip on saturday. I logged in 63 hours of fishing. The weather was tough the first couple days, but had some nice enviormental changes later in the week. Fishing was on the slow side. Most of the fish I heard being caught (which was not alot) were on Pete's. I had one fish up on Pete's on a Pacemaker. The night bite was also slow with one fish hitting a globe boatside. Who knows with the weather changing still, things may turn up. Overall was a fun trip, just dress WARM! If you are staying at Treeland's you have a ton of spots to fish close bye. Moss creek always holds fish, Eagles nest is always a good spot, Cavanaugh, Haycreek, Hells Half Acre, Flemmings & Pete's and even Musky Bay right in front of the resort... -Phil C.
