Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | How were the fish hitting where you were this weekend? It was FAC, HOT, and humid, and the fishing here in Rhinelander matched. Keith and I popped a 33 and a 50 matchfishing, and moved 10 others despite nearly roasting out there. Algae was rampant, and smelly, too, except for our little bunny lake, which was clear as a bell despite being brown water..

Posts: 235 | Steve, I hope this isn't to personal but why don't you show up at your son's memorial tournament on Pelican lake? It was hot and humid and there was algae on Pelican but 12 legal fish were caught. Something like 34, 34, 36, 38, 39, 40, 40.5, 41, 41.5, 44, 44.5, and a whopping 50". I managed to pull the 44.5" fish out of 3' of water in the slop. A lot of nice fish caught given the weather conditions.

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Barry Thiel and I started that event many years ago. I always helped get the boats checked, was a judge, and took care of the rules meeting and awards. This goes back to 1983, I think. After I lost my son, he decided to offer the Tournament as a benefit to the Ronald McDonald House in Kevin's name. I MC'd the tournament, and took care of the donations to the House for years. Barry sold Lakeview Inn, and the next Winter I went in to make certain the event was still on, and was informed that someone else was MC and they would handle the rest. I am assuming there is a charity donation but am not sure to whom.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Steve, sure do miss you at that tourney. It isn't run nearly as well as when you and Barry did it. I do give them a lot of credit though, they are concerned 100% about the well being of the fish. Was a tough bite even though they were a good number of fish caught on Pelican. Didn't talk to anyone that moved more than a couple of fish. Don Lewis of Sheldon's (Mepps) popped his first legal ever, a fifty incher to win the tournament. I managed a 44" for third place on a Mepps Marabou. It was one of two fish we moved all day.

Posts: 358 | Hey Steve, You are definitely right about the "funk" from the algae bloom. My lake looked like pea soup, and smelled twice as bad as usual. Aside from all that though, Friday eve I boated a very fat 39"er, and had about the same sized fish take a whack at my bait Sat morn just before sunrise. I was hoping water would start a gradual decline, but with the upcoming weeks weather it doesnt look to promising. Attached is a pic of my "Jenny Craig" dropout! Best of luck to all! Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | I popped a little 30"er on Sat evening with my pops. Saw 2 others. He missed a mid 30 on a fig 8. That fish followed it around about 12 times, then he nailed the bucktail. 3 dances later, back to the depths. Oh well. It was cool to see. That would have been his 1st fig 8 'skie. Good lungen, Joel

Posts: 440 | Had about 7 hrs of early, early morning fishing Sat/Sun combined. One hit and One error. Felt like a good fish but didn't see it and so the story goes. One follow that pushed water all the way to the boat only to peel off on the first turn. I have to say I like creepers, I have moved 3 fish in less than 2 hrs time throwing them.

Posts: 196 | I fished about 6 hours on Friday and moved 7 fish and caught a 37 on a DDD. The spot had just been fished by another musky angler less than 5 minutes before I got there.
