Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I am looking at getting a couple rodholders for my Fish Hawk for holding my sucker rods. I am looking at the clamp on Down East holdrs, but was wondering if they would fit on the side of my boat. Any suggestions?

Posts: 3240 Location: Racine, Wi | Norm, Those holders rock if they will fit. I use them on my Tuffy. I believe that they open to a little over 2". What type of boat are you running. If the gunnels are not real thick, they should fit. Hope this helps. They also have rail mounts as well if you have a rail to mount them on. Good lungen, Joel

Posts: 294 Location: Suspended | Get the double clamp style even if you just think you might use them for trolling muskie lures. The single clamp ones are fine for bait but I had one break on me over the weekend while trolling an extra rod. My co-pilot saw it go and almost dove off the back of the boat to grab the rig, what a save! Edited by Webguy 9/2/2003 12:27 PM

Posts: 32884 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If you wish I can get you hooked up with Tempress Fish On! rod holders with a new model that has a stainless bolt running through the pin . I talked to them about durablity, which I felt was an issue, and they came back with the stainless bolt idea. Makes the holder tough as nails, and can retrofit to any out there now.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Steve, I'm looking for something that is easily removed and works for dragging meat around. They don't have to be indestructabe, I do zero trolling. I really don't want to drill any holes in my boat to rig them so if they clamp on it would be great. If you think they will work zip me an email on the specifics.

Posts: 177 Location: Germantown & Land O Lakes WI | Those clamp ons will do nothing but scratch the finish. I had a FishHawk and put RAM flush mounts and rod holders all the way around the rig...RAM is the way to go, great for spinning and casting reels/rods.

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | But, I have the impression that Downeasters are the only holder that allow you to run a "down rod". Is that correct? That's what I want to do next on my boat. Most of the people I see with Downeasters have them fastened to a reinforced plywood platform across the stern of their boat. For easy removal when not using, I'd assume.

Posts: 5874 | Norm, Scotty's with the flush mount will work fine for sucker rigging. I have 8 mounts on my boat. The only thing I don't like about the Scotty's is when trolling for ski's. They tend to work their way up and out of the mounts, and pop back. No chance of losing your rod/reel, but it is a pain in the butt having to reset them all the time. They work just fine for pulling boards, though. As far as running downrods, I got the extensions for mine this year, and they work fine. Gets the rods almost vertical!

Posts: 1430 Location: Eastern Ontario | You can clamp the down easters ( S10's ) on you cleats or transom ( use something to protect finish ). Now I troll a lot for 40-50+ pounders and would never trust my $300 outfits to a plastic holder (Scottys).
