Posts: 983 | anyone throwing these baits? The action on them is great serious belly roll when twitching the bait...Have seen action on them but 1 head shake and gone...I think hooks a little small for Muskie upgraded one of them but think I went a little too big lost lot of roll to the bait...anyone else using them and upgrading hooks?

Posts: 98 Location: Franklin, WI | My partner boated three ski's on High Falls and Caldron Flowages to win the annual Crivitz Musky tournament using nothing but "4 plays". We've boated many ski's using them right out of the box. You can upgrade the hooks if desired. The small hooks they come with are very sharp and have no problems getting a good hook set. There are three models: the lipless (shallow/wake bait), the small lip (2-4 feet depth), and the large lip (6-8feet depth). The large lip (runs deeper) has been the most effective. They provide a match of average forage size for most waters. Perch pattern seems so work the best. They're very easy to work and provide relief from throwing "dussa's", dawgs, and double 10's! I have 8 of them.

Posts: 20261 Location: oswego, il | They don't make the slow float large lipped one anymore. I told the okuma/savage gear reps at sport shows and emailed the company several times with no response to continue making it. Besidss the lipless 10" model, it is the only one worth having. A twitcher's dream. The problem with swim baits like this is they are marketed as straight cranking baits. Easy peasy fishing. Since it dives beyond your site zone can't see the strike. What a shame discontinuing the best bait they make. ![]()

Posts: 983 | I love the action on the four plays I have the lipless ones and the small lipped ones in the 7.5inch and think the 5inch...only throw the 7.5 so far..I have had 1 Muskie hit the 7.5 four play and had a huge small mouth hit the 7.5 as well...the hooks are sharp just worry they a lil small and could get bent pretty easy...

Posts: 20261 Location: oswego, il | I have tried the other models but the slow float with the bigger lip has alot more action. I have caught quite a few fish with them. I have upsized the hooks one size and it is fine. Too big and the bait will sink. I am really bummed they discontinued such a productive bait.

I upgraded one of my 7.5 lipped ones and it killed a lil bit of the belly roll when you jerk and twitch..I think I went to a 2/0 I know some people arent upgrading which the hooks are sharp as can be just seem a lil small to me...

Posts: 20261 Location: oswego, il | Not sure on the size maybe a 1/0 or a 1. I think the hooks on it are a 1 or a 2 size. I went one size up in the same style thin black nickel hook. The bait is a very slow float so adding a thicker or much bigger hook will change it. Just banging my head that such a great bait for deep weed edges and open water is no longer made.

Posts: 294 Location: Sakatchewan,Canada | 10" model? When did they start making a 10" model? I thought the 7.5" was the largest model they offer.

Posts: 635 Location: S.W. WI | I have a few of the slow sink lipless 10" versions they used to make. they swim awesome. I rarely use them, but they look crazy nice in the water. I like how shallow they stay.

Posts: 20261 Location: oswego, il | The large 10" model has more range of motion making the lipless model work well. I prefer the bigger lip on the 7.5" model becuase it makes the most out of the range of motion that size has.
