I got the Okuma 303d trolling reels, How much line do you need to troll for Green Bay Muskies? 150 yards of braided enough? Do you use backing? What kind of line do of you use? Thanks Mike.

30-40 pound mono for boards or 80-100 pound braid. Probably should use mono backing if using braid. Always ran mono on boards and have had no issues boating some big fish out there on GB

100 pound Masterbraid on everything for me. 150 Yards should be enough but all my trolling setups are about 1/2 spooled with braid and then mono backing...probably over 200 yards of braid I'm guessing. Sometimes you have to send a board out and you don't want to run short on line.

450ft of braid is good enough. If i run 6 lines and have plenty of room i will put 200ft to the outside board. With a bait behind it you still probably have 200ft or so on the spool. For muskies, thats good. A 25lb king salmon i might be worried. The 303 will spool alot of 40lb mono too.

I think 450’ is barley enough because it leaves no extra to cut and retie.

I just spooled up over 700’ of fresh 40lb mono on my 4 board rods each, not because I need that much now, it's so I can cut and retie for about the next year. Line is cheap and after clipping boards on and off for a while it's a good idea to cut that section off… granted the braid will hold up better than the mono, but cut and re-tie 10 times and how much you have left?

Also, I really like full spools because when the reels are topped off the drags work a little smoother, plus they pick up line faster and easier while bringing in boards and fighting fish.
