Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I guess I will stir the pot here. Have no problems with a tourney on moose lake but why have it on this shallow dark lake in august? Hope it went well just the same.

| From what I heard there were a total of 6 fish caught only. The largest was 37" and the new 40 inch limit forced them to have judge boats stationed at several spots on the lake as it would be illegal to move or transport fish under the 40 inch legal length. Another reason higher size limits can be a good thing. | |||

Posts: 925 | That is one thing about a higher size limit in Wisconsin. Ususually in every big tournament I have been in, there is only a couple of fish over 40" caught. It would really hurt the tournies until those lakes have time for the fish to start averaging over 40".

| That's a misconception! It really won't hurt tournaments if they go to the widely accepted method of using judge boats and point of catch release. Then it's easy to count the undersize ones and a lot better for the fish too. However if they want to transport them, yes it will have a negative effect. But they do not need to transport them either so if they are willing to adapt, good. Otherwise the other alternative would be go away | |||

Posts: 925 | I thought legally, you are not supposed to be able to register sub-legal fish? I guess that is something that the DNR would have to address. But I know that at the Kentucky PMTT, the size limit is 30", even though I think their limit is 34". The PMTT gets permission from the Kentucky DNR to register 30" and above. I am assuming Tom Mc had to get permission from the DNR to be able to register sub-legals on Moose? Does anyone know for sure?

| If they release them where they catch them and use judge boats I don't think size is an issue with the DNR as in effect they are not keeping or reducing the catch to possession by transporting it? That's where the DNR comes from on the transport issue, If you Haul it you Own it! And to do so it must be a legal fish. From what I understand, Given Tom's past relations with the DNR fish manager in the Hayward area I seriously doubt that he had been given any special concideration. | |||

| The law states that upon the catching of an undersized fish it must be immediately released. The only way undersized fish can be measured and counted for a money tournament is with a special permit. I discussed this issue with the WI DNR this spring when we were voting for the 50 inch limits in Vilas and Oneida Co. John | |||

Posts: 925 | Oneida: That is exactly what I was trying to get at. I thought the fish had to be immediately released if sub-legal.

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | Found this fishing report today about moose: Was on Moose Lake for a week of fishing with the family. Water was like bath water. Caught 1 28" Muskie and a 12 or so panfish with the kids. I only fished 2-3 hours per Am for Skis. Why have a tournament here in august? Edited by ToddM 8/28/2003 9:54 PM
