Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | I saw (from a distance) a muskie or large pike attempt to eat a full grown duck last week on LOTW. I heard a splash followed by flapping, looked and a flock of ducks was taking off while the victim was struggling with his attacker. It eventually pulled free but couldn't get off of the water (presumably because of wet plumage) so it flapped to shore in a big hurry. Crazy what a muskie will attempt to eat. Witnessed something similar back in the '80's in Wisco... the one legged duck seemed to adjust well..

Posts: 8791 | I wasn't there to see it, but a couple of buddies of mine watched a muskie take down an adult loon. Funny thing was it was the only fish they saw all day.

Back in 2004, I had a spent a long, hot day working to remodel the seasonal cottage we had bought. About 9 PM, I finished supper and took a cold beer down to sit on the dock. I heard something along shore and noticed a full grown muskrat swimming parallel to shore. I walked back toward shore to see if I could find out where the muskrat had its home, since I saw it in that area often. Then by the dock light, I saw an upper 30s muskie come in from deeper water and turn to track the muskrat. Never heard any splashing, etc., so I think it thought better of going after the rat. But, it was interesting to see it take the same path as the muskrat.

Posts: 294 Location: Sakatchewan,Canada | I have seen big pike eats muskrats on a few occasions, as well as ducklings and a full grown duck. That's a nice little video that kid shot!

Posts: 320 | Last season on the WI river I was fishing an area and there were two small ducks that began to take off when there was a huge splash and only one ended up flying away. Pretty cool to see.
