Posts: 52 | Just wondering what prop would be best to use for a 2013 Ranger 621 with a Yamaha 300. Motor came with a Yamaha Reliance prop which I believe was a 13.25 x 21. Although it performed well, I had some noise at low rpm's so the dealer switched it out to a saltwater series II sds 15 x 21. The That prop got rid of the noise but doesn't seem to perform well. I have a really bad hole shot and also is not good for tubing. I also have a just in case box in the back with alot of weight so that may be causing some of the problem too. Any ideas of what would be best?

Location: 31 | I can't help you with exact size but can tell you that I run two different size SS props on my 621, a larger one that was recommended for top RPM/speed and smaller one for larger loads, smaller lakes, tubing, and especially rough water conditions where you need to maintain 20-25 MPH. You will give up some top end with an undersized prop, but the trade-off will be that your boat pops up on plane almost instantly, and is the stone cold nuts for operator comfort when you have to trudge threw rough water for miles. I'm on big water pretty much 90% of the time so I just leave the smaller prop on and happily surrender about 8 MPH top end for the superior rough water performance... FYI, the "recommended" prop size made the boat difficult to manage/stay on plane during low speed operation. Maybe M/1st expert VMS can handle this (when he gets back from vacation?) Also, your local dealer that recommended the prop should be a good source as well.

Posts: 106 | Yamaha makes a 13-3/4 x 21 reliance with SDS Or try a saltwater II 15 x 19 or 15 x 20.

Posts: 3483 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya!! Jeff, do you happen to have your max RPM numbers for each of those propellers when it is just you and your gear? I'll gladly help out, but am hopeful for a little more information... The 621 is a big, big boat and the motor is a big big motor as well, so knowing that max rpm number and the speed you are seeing will help tremendously. Jerry...thank you for the kind words!! Location: 31 | Sorry, I have 250 Yamaha on mine so don't think that will help much with a 300. I bought the boat used in 2011 and it came with 2-3 blade SS props that I thought were the same size until I dinged one while loading in 2012. However, I instantly realized they were different and could hardly believe what a huge low end performance difference it made. These offshore Yamaha's are better known for longevity, certainly not hole shot (especially on a 621), but this smaller prop has been kind of the best of both worlds for me... excepting the loss of some top end which I don't care about 90% of the time. It's definitely worth you checking into though because the boat instantly went from being a bear with the "recommended" prop for max RPM/speed, to almost a pleasure to run at that difficult slow on plane rough sea speed of about 20MPH. That's why I chimed in...hope this helps.

Cheers Jake Here's the smaller one I've been using on my 2008 621 with a 250 Yamaha (max speed 48), the other larger one is buried but can dig it out and post a pic if you need it too. I don't know the brand... hope this helps. Edited by Jerry Newman 7/18/2017 2:05 PM Attachments ---------------- 250 Yamaha.jpg (25KB - 397 downloads)

Location: Contrarian Island | big heavy rig like that could maybe really benefit from a 4 blade?! I got a custom from DAH props in Burlington for my 690 and he seemed to know a lot about how to prop a boat.. might be worth a call to see what he thinks...
