I can pick one up in excellent condition for $75 locally.

I did do a search on here, most I found were mixed feelings about this reel. Some likes it and others say it's too slow.

As a beginner into musky fishing what is your take?

On the Abu Garcia website most of the reviews I had found said they loved it for musky fishing....

Thanks in advanced

great reel, the one I have has been flawless and have caught tons of big fish on it with a sling blade. Great night reel for blades and slow moving topwaters like creepers and hawg wobblers.... I put a TE power handle on mine and reels em in like butter!

It's a great reel, but be careful. The muskie-worthy one is the Revo TORO Winch. There is a Revo Winch that's not as beefy, I believe.

that's the bass reel ... I've seen used Toro Winches in good shape go for ~125 on here or online ... I'd opt for that versus the one you posted.

If it isn't the Toro, I would pass... just me though, I'm sure others will have things to say as well.

a size 200 bass reel is not suited for 95% of the lures used for muskie/big pike unfortunatly

as a beginner, you might want to look at a discount price discontinued reel. The revo TORO, revo TORO winch and revo TORO nacl are discontinued and sould be found for reletivly cheap.
the calcutta D in the 400 size will soon be discontinued and should also be easy to find at a relatively cheap price

otherwise, if you want something new and cheap, look at a max TORO

It is not the Toro. It is this one below

http://www.abugarcia.com/abugarcia-reels-baitcast-reels-low-profile...

you could use it on some lures but not ideal at all and that thing is only 22ipt in bass style way to slow IMO...Now the Toro Winch one would def do the Trick No Problem...That being Said you gonna spend more than $75 on decent baitcaster for Muskie...Any Gander Mountains near going out of Biz?? Just Bought My Brother a Abu Max Toro Reel and Rod Combo...The Reel alone is $150 retail and is modeled after the very popular Toro S....You can get That Combo for around $150 or less at Gander...They only $199 full retail Great Beginner Set Up and Will Handle majority of Lures you gonna throw...Absolute Great starter Set That can Be all purpose until you get more equipment or see if you gonna stick with this Brutally Painful Sport We all Come To Love So Much!!!LOL
