Posts: 213 Location: Wisconsin | I got the chance to use my new 400hg tranx last night and I was really happy with how it performed. I threw dogs, dussas, jerkbaits and double 8's with it. It can really burn a small bucktail like no other. That being said i would not throw anything over 8's with it. I got rid of a Revo Toro S for the the HG and will be selling my other S for the 5:8:1. They palm great and cast great as well.

Posts: 983 | This is opinion go feel all the reels and buy what your comfotable with...they all make quality reels that will get the Job done...The Tranx 500 just too big for me...I love the abu Toro S the beast and Rocket and also have couple Lexas that are great reels...Lexa Big as well. I have 50s and 60s in the abus I love the 50s best cause they are the Most comfortable for me to Palm and Fish with Corretly So go feel them all and go with what you feel most comfortable with...Gonna have more success if oyur comfotable out there with your equipment and have confidence in them compared to not feeling comfortable and it costing you fish because your not comfortable fishing makes thing that much more difficult and we dont need to make this sport any more difficult do We??

Posts: 676 Location: Wisconsin | Thanks. Yeah, I've gone and tested out all of the reels in the store, just wanted to hear back from the field on reports on those three based on performance and issues. Tranx 500 is too big for sure. I like the Toro 50s since I do like the palm reels, but is the Lexa better for casting for example. I think for burning bucktails the Toro S will be too slow, the Rocket is a little outside the price range I was looking at.

Posts: 213 Location: Wisconsin | Tranx 400 is the way to go. Palms nicer than the Toro S and there are times you can get it on sale. Seen it as low as $250 on ebay with discount and i just got one on Outdoor pro shop with discount for $269.99. The lexa 300 is decent for palming but in my opinion the 400 is a bit big and clumsy, and if you are going to go that size just buy a used tranx 500 for $325. I have used all of the reels you have mentioned and although relatively new the Tranx 400 is my favorite.

Posts: 1638 Location: Minnesota | I like my 500 and 400 tranx I would like a 450 tranx . The 500 is big and the 400 seams like a bass reel compared to the 500. I just have to get out and use it more

Posts: 213 Location: Wisconsin | I do agree that the tranx 400 is compact. I like the weight of it as well as the fact that it still holds 150 yards of 80 pound 832. A 450 Tranx would be the best of both worlds but on a nice light weight rod that combo is a dream to fish all day. I have it on a LT big dawg and it's primary use is for rubber and swimbaits. It's more than adequate for what i plan on using it for. It wouldn't cover all bases but who only wants one nice rod and reel anyways.

The Lexa is great but big reel too...The Revo Toro S will pull tens no problem and its still right around 30IPT so its not slow....I use my beast 4.9 to pull tens unless im burning them and its only 27IPT and its not too slow IMO...Now If I wanna burn blades Ill get out the Beast 60hs or the Rocket...You can pick the Rocket up online for around $280ish

Posts: 64 | Check out the Beast 60 HS. 34'' per turn. I burn 8's, rip rubber, jig Bondy's, and crank big lipped crankbaits with this thing. Awesome reel for that stuff, but not great for 10's. I use the Toro S 60 for that.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I use a Toro 60 HS Beast for a lot of stuff. My go to reel for 10s and rubber. I'm using the non balanced handle on the middle setting. In my opinion that reel at 34 ipt with the handle on the middle setting is easier to crank 10s faster than the 29 ipt Toro S with the balanced power handle.

Location: Not far enough north! | dirtybird - 6/30/2017 8:02 AM Has anyone used the Tranx 400pg with power handle for 9/10 blades? What are your thoughts? I put a jigging world handle on mine. Works great. Pretty effortless to bring in 10s. Not real fast at 30ipt but good speed for normal conditions. It's a little longer than the power handle that comes on the 400hg. I did have to de-burr the handle a little to get it to fit easily on the shaft of the reel. Mostly just took paint off inside of the hole.
