In the last 3 times out this bait gets fouled up somewhere along the cast just about half the time and im losing my patients with it. Its scored me 3 fish so far this year and i love it minus this part.

Im using a 9-6 chaos tackle rod, lexa 400 hd. ive tried leaving almost none all the way up to 3' of slack in the line. Casting with the wind, into the wind it doesnt seem to matter.

I thumb the spool the whole time so i have control over it so the flipping doesnt happen but it must be somewhere.

anyone have this problem with this bait or am i just having an amateur moment?

maybe a steel leader vs my flouro im currently using

any ideas

I'm assuming you are a doctor if you are losing patients?

Can the rear hook have a point buried in the body of the bait or is it too thin?

i tried to bury the hooks but they come out fairly easy and it throws the action off a bit, maybe a little rubberband on the front hook

I guess ill just baby the casts and see how that goes.

thanks

Shelly Winters would be a good person to pose this question to.

Slow the spool down with your thumb at the end and the bait will lay out better..

Besides trying a steel leader, I think the real question is below:

Try putting some super glue on hook, then insert in plastic. Then put a bead of superglue where hook meets plastic.

Try a little shrink wrap around split ring and hook shank. Works on tubes too.

So I have made a few thousand casts with these in the last two years and have not had this issue.I think if you stop the line with your thumb before impact you will see these issues go away. FWIW I am using a Fluro wind on leader or a standard Fluro Stealth Leader...On a side note, I have had these issues with the new Swimmin' Dawg ( as I thought I might) given the front hook placement... Not enough where I wont toss it but is does happen...

I make a 10" soft paddletail swimbait and my first version caught the leader iccasionally. I moved the line tie eye up more on top of the new version so that wouldn't happen anymore. I used the heat shrink trick to solve the problem on my first version and it worked.

I'm in agreement with Mojo1269
Just stop the spool with your thumb right before the bait hits the water and it will lay out nicely.

It sounds like your Poseidon is tumbling early in in the cast due to using too stiff of a rod.

What size leader you using # and length I throw a possisidion a good bit and it will foul as you state but Im only fouling maybe 1 or2 times max in 25-35 casts havent had big issue...throwing on 9ft6inch XH predator Rod and Im using Fluoro leaders at around #130 I use and 18 inch ands seems to work well Ill thumb the spool good about 3 ft before it hits water

So today I used a 9' TI XH rod with a wire leader and didn't have one mishap. I added some tape to the front hook but I feel the rod was too stiff so it was flinging the bait too much.

Thanks all for the replies
