Would anyone have any suggestions for a Wisconsin family vacation? I have a 1 year old that would have to be accommodated. I definitely want to stop by the St Croix rod factory and a few musky shops. We love the outdoors however with my son being so young we have to limit his exposure to the elements. I would like to go to some good parks/family recreational areas, eat my fill of cheese and maybe take a boat ride and possibly one day leave the wife and kiddo to musky fish for one day while they shop or explore the area. We love aquariums, museums, etc also.
Any suggestions would be fantastic! I am shooting for late June early July for the family vacation.

Thanks again
Daniel

Look in the Hayward Wi area. Might have some good places.

I would 2nd Hayward...or look to the Eagle River area. As a kid, we would always go to Pastika's bait & tackle and the fish museum with the big musky and other fish...I think there is a small park there as well. Unfortunately, Pastika's is no longer there, but they have the fish museum, they have an excellent ice cream parlor downtown (maybe called Wes'?) and a lot of local places to rent pontoons/eat on the water. You can do almost all of the same in the Eagle River area, with in my opinion, better tackle shops between Guides Pro Choice and Tadpoles, just no huge fish museum...probably more "other things" to do in Eagle River though.

Google the chamber of commerce sites for the many areas of northern wisconsin. Easiest way to see what each area has to offer.

Thanks everyone for the info. I will be spending lots of time tonight on google while trying to get something together. The fish museum sounds awesome! We might end up spending a couple days in one location and move around "lots of great stuff to see"

Thanks again

If you can make it up to the Duluth area, the Great Lakes Aquarium is an AWESOME time. Their displays are incredible--featuring pretty much every species you can think of. It's that much farther up the road than the Hayward area is...about 75 minutes or so, I think. We were there a few years back and found it to be a very pleasant surprise.

Minocqua seems to be the epicenter of North Wisconsin recreation if you include a visit to St. Croix. Dad always called it the "high rent district". Well, pretty much everything becomes that during the tourista season so considering that most places of interest are within an hours' drive. Park Falls, St. Germain, Eagle River, Rhinelander, Tomahawk all in easy striking distance. Only Hayward lies outside that circle but even then, less than two hours to visit the FWFHOF is worth the trip and if you do Park Falls you're half way there. Welcome to Wisconsin!

Minocqua area for sure ... only a 45 minute drive over to Park Falls and you would have both The Musky Shop and Guides Choice to visit. the St. Croix Factory is a great musky shop too. Hint ... they are usually stocked with some of the baits that knuckleheads pay a fortune for online too!! just don't tell anyone i told you ...
