Posts: 39 | Who's ready? I was up last weekend, water temps were right around 52, but with the cool weather wondering if they dropped since then. Warming trend this weekend, so what are your thoughts on what the action will be like? Thinking of throwing mainly baby squirkos, phantoms, and twitch baits. but might try spinning tackle with small husky jerks and bucktails.

Posts: 574 Location: Elk Grove Village, IL & Phillips, WI | I'm ready. I'll be up in Price county. I don't really have high hopes with the water temps, but I'll be out there twitching small minnow baits.

I'll be up in the Presque Isle area throwing 4" and 6" Phantoms along with twitching some small minnow baits. The warm up will help but with the water temps in the low 50s I am not expecting any consistent action. Luckily they aren't all on the exact same spawning schedule so finding a few that are done and ready to chew shouldn't be impossible.

Posts: 255 | Will be in Rhinelander slaying them, maybe. Hitting the shallows with small bucks/spinners and gliders or twitch baits. Hoping for a slight warm up to get a some fish moving. On 5/14 surface temp was 55ish. If I downsize lures might get into some species too. I heard bass anglers catch all the big ones. John Andrews report has 56-60degree temp.

Posts: 859 Location: MN | Lots of weed growth and water between 64-67 across the lake. Had one hit on a wades in 8ft of water. Hit the bait but didn't get the hooks home. Edited by NathanH 5/28/2017 3:37 PM

Posts: 39 | I had a run in with a 40"-ish 'Lunge right away Saturday morning. Pulled up to a spot where i knew some crappies were holding, tied on my mini Squirko i bought in offseason. Took a few lazy 10ft casts to see how bait works in water and to get a feel for what i needed to do with the rod. On the 3rd 10ft cast a fish came from underneath the boat and grabbed it. Had him hooked for a minute, but couldnt get the net under him. I think I just need to do a better job of slowing down and letting fish get a little more tired out before i reach for net. Had me shaking tho. I am still very inexperienced. Last year i took a big step up. Didnt boat any by myself, but i raised more fish than i ever had in the past. LOVE THE CHASE!! Good to hear a few of you guys had action as well!
