| Hi, I'm thinking of getting a St. Croix Ledgend Tournament Rod. Specifically the jerk. I've herd this is a stiff rod. I mainly throw 6" phantom soft tails and 9" Suik thrillers. My question is this rod too stiff for these? Thanks. |

Location: St Paul, Minnesota | It's a great rod, I've used the Legend Tournament Classic Jerk (no longer made), Jerk, and Lipstick for a bunch of different jerks and glides.
Food for thought though, consider getting a Big Dawg (8'6 XH)... Here me out on this. It has the same XH as the jerk, good length for figure-8's (the bane of most short jerk rods), good rod load, and the versatility to double for other applications.

I did this exactly. Had a "Jerk" and you always felt like you were bending over at the end of a cast to do a proper figure eight. Replaced it with a big dawg and it suits me much better. If you are taller and spend most time in the front of the boat, I would go with the big dawg. |

Location: Probably Minnesota that time... | I just picked up the Jerk at the Mn Muskie expo a month or so ago. I have only tested it a couple times off the dock at a local pond throwing 5" 2oz gliders up to 10" 14 oz, it seems to handle everything. With that biggest bait, I think you'd be better off with the Big Dawg, but for what I'm throwing 95% of the time... this rod seems ideal. Also had no problem ripping cranks and dive & rise baits. For the smaller lighter twitch style baits a lighter action rod would probably be a better choice.
I was a little nervous about the palming grip, & will give it a true test come opener. I really like how comfortable it feels, & I don't have the biggest of mitts.
In my opinion, this rod would be ideal for the baits you mentioned. |

| I love the jerk for tubes and wtd Baits and gliders.
And yes it figure eights poorly but my wrist and arms like it when retrieving. |
