Today the ice went out on the lake where I live. I do enjoy winter, with ice fishing, cross country skiing and snow shoeing but ice out means spring is really coming. The ducks and geese are out in force, including migrants we only see in early spring and sometimes in late fall. Maybe it is a sign of my advancing age, but I seem to enjoy the "rebirth" that ice out signals more than when I was younger.

Giving myself a week or so to do the outside chores that couldn't be done when the land was covered in ice and snow, than will start getting serious about getting on the water, even if just to do a little paddling around for exercise. Here's to spring!

It's great seeing blue open water! Big areas of Leech Lake went out today, I'm guessing less than a week and she will be ice free! It's a special time of year for sure.

I am with you North, I seem to really look forward to that day I see the sun reflecting on the open water so much more now than when I was younger!
Here is to Spring!

We are up in Minocqua this week, and several of the lakes I love to fish up here opened up today. Hitting it Sunday for big perch.

Side Lake, where I live is half open this morning. I'm sure it will be wide open by this evening. Vermilion can't be far behind.

Lake Bemidji is getting there...I'd guess by the end of next week if not sooner it will be ice free. It's a beautiful time of year when the lakes open up again!
