Posts: 983 | Ok bought boat that has a Lowrance HDS-5 Gen 2 on the console and has teh structure scan box set up in with the batteries...few questions can Lowrance Gen 2 work with a Lowrance Gen3? Want to add another finder to the bow and link them....Was considering getting the Lowrance 9 or 10 Gen3 but didnt know if they compatible with the HDS5 gen2 oer if I need to buy another Gen2...Should I just start from scratch an opinions greatly appreciated....wanna set this boat up right I also have the new Terrova with Ipilot that links with hummingbird dont believe it will link with Lowrance but not positive just trying to game plan how to set this boat an ideas I want to hear? Location: Eastern Ontario | Gen 2 and 3 are compatible If you are only linking 2 units via ethernet cable your LSS2 box is not required as with gen 3 it is built in. The number of units you can link would depend on how many ethernet ports your new gen 3 has larger units have more ports. Lowrance units will not link with a Terova. If your Terova is Ipilot link and not just Ipilot you may be better off selling your Lowrance and buying birds

If your Terova is Ipilot link and not just Ipilot you may be better off selling your Lowrance and buying birds my terrova has ipilot but not link....so Ill probably stay with lowrance so I can just buy 1....So if I buy a new HDS9 gen3 my structure scan box is now useless or will it still function with the Gen2? Or with linking the gen3 to the 2 the gen 2 with use the structure scan from the gen 3? Just wanna do as efficient as possible and have good set up but I dont need to go crazy... The gen2 HDS5 is lil small so I thought about leaving it at console put new HDS9 gen 3 at bow and get a 10inch droid tablet and use app to link it to the Gen3 HDS9 at bow and could watch the tablet from rear of boat? IS that accurate what I am trying to do and it is do able? get confused linking these things and how they will function...this good idea or No?? thanks

Posts: 303 Location: Not where I want to be! | 25 homes, If you get a hds 9 or 12, you can have as many as three hds units networked together off the hds 9 without using the box. There are two Ethernet ports on the hds 9. So you can have structure scan on all three units. The structure scan transducer must be hooked up to the hds 9 to do this. Then run an ethernet cable to each of the other units from the hds 9. I am currently doing this on my own boat(hds 7, and two 9's). The generation of the units is not relevant. The box could be used if you wanted to make your network larger than this. PS. nema 2000 will not network structure scan. That's for other stuff.

Posts: 983 | Im actually gonna try different route I ordered Wifi 1 module to try the Go free app...Gonna try and hook up a tablet at bow and at rear deck and Run them Off the app from The HDS5 gen 2 I have...I assume I just have to hook Wifi 1 module to the HDS5 gen 2 and I am good to go...since Structure scan already ran to the HDS5 I hope this works out it will save me a ton of money
