My little 25 hp Johnson / 16 " Alumacraft is great for fishing but is starting to have a hard time pulling my 14 year old daughter on waterski's. A larger motor is not an option right now. I have the standard 3-bladed metal prop that came with the motor and was thinking of changing to a 4 bladed CompProp (from Cabelas). These are supposed to be lighter and give better acceleration and top-end performance. Does anybody have any experience with these? Also, CompProp makes one with a higher pitch (10x13) rather than the standard 10.5x11. I think this should help pull a skier out of the water but can anybody tell me how much the top-end performnace might suffer (somebody told me that the higher pitched prop might not be able to plane the boat.)

Any & all suggestions welcome.

I doubt you will see substantial improvement with 25hp. I would buy a prop from a local dealer who will let you test it before purchasing.

MN Steve - I just went thru this whole ordeal on Props.
I have a 40 horse 4 stroke Evinrude. I was/am running an 11 1/2 X 13. That is considered a work prop for my engine. Standard props or work props are what you want for skiing/tubing, etc...Speed props will not plane out quick enough to get the job done.

I should recieve my new prop in the next day: Since I rarely tube or ski and my 11 1/2 X 13 pulled me with ease and I am 195lbs, I wanted to gain top end speed. I ordered the 11 X 15. This will not get me out the gate quicker, but it will get me about 4-5 MPH faster in top end speed, which is what I want. If we decide to ski/tube, I'll switch props.

Check out this site: www.billynorman.com Not only does Billy offer competitive prices, but his site is useful with Info. He respons to emails very quickly too! You cna also Michigan Wheel Tech Suppoort to get more Info: 616-452-6941. I called them just to double check with Billy's info, and he was right on!

The higher the pitch number, the poorer he hole shot. If the pitch on the Comp Prop is two numbers higher than the prop you have now, it will reduce your hole shot, but if the motor can turn it, increase your top end. Four blade props have more blade in the water all the time, so are better for hole shot and holding the hull in rough conditions than a three blade, but are generally slower on the top end.

I have a 75 tiller and I'm thinking of going to a four blade just because I heard that the handling is much easier.
Any thoughts on that from those in the know?
