Howdy,

First, great bait and not bashing. However, every one I purchased quickly lost patches of paint in areas, and not from hooks or fish. I was told there was a bad batch for a few runs which I suppose happens.

That said, how are the paint jobs on the new ones holding up?

Take care,

Ruddiger

I returned two last year due to paint falling off both and one leaking. All within an hour of casting, both were brand new.

This has happened to nearly every modern post-ROI topraider I have seen. Don't sweat the paint. Fish don't care...

Krylon.

Any lure worth it's salt will eventually have no paint left anyway. Looks like ROI did you a favor by speeding up the process.

Its sad that they are not made like they originally were. Same with Depthraiders
Quality of this bait went way down hill.
All the new ones that I have used loose paint quickly I just hit with black spray paint. Fish don't care IMO
I have also have had fish punch holes in them so they sink and have had on 3 different topraiders the tails and back hook fall off . I don't hardly use them anymore.

The originals were great. It seemed once they wenter to the yellow pack the quality went way down on all bucher peoducts.

If it makes you feel better Lake X lures have the same paint flaking issue.

i have had the same issues with topraiders and depthraiders as listed above by Jeff Hansen. Lures don't run straight out of the package, paint peels very quickly, lures get holes in he sides from trolling in a matter of a day... The pre-ROI baits are worth their weight, but the new ones have lost a place in my box. Big Mama and Lake X don't have those issues.

Has anyone here who is crying that their lures don't look pretty...actually contacted Bucher Outdoors? Or, do you think it will be fixed by talking about your lures here?

Ok, that came off a little harsh....but:

a. let's talk about fixes, not issues. if you're just here to talk about things breaking, paint chipping, baits not running right and you're not looking for a way to fix the issue...arent you here to just talk about the bad stuff? Ie. bashing.
b. Bucher in all his companies' iterations has been great about replacing faulty product. You just need to reach out to the company, and not here.
c. if you're not happy with your baits having paint chip...I'll buy them from you for $.10 on the dollar.

Correct, the only problem is they send another bait and the paint falls off immediately just like the one that was exchanged. It isn't worth the time and hassle to keep sending them in after using a bait for a few hours.

I've also noticed the top raiders don't have the same sound as the old ones. I still toss my first generation ones but haven't been satisfied with any of the new ones.

what's wrong with sharing experiences good or bad... it isn't bashing per say is it ? it's simply letting us consumers know that a ~$20 baits paint might not hold up... seems to me that is worth sharing....

Look at it this way. In my line of work if we put out product that failed with us knowing about it beforehand,WE'D BE IN PRISON. Not too much to expect something to work as advertised.

Yes Slamr I have contacted them many times and Joe Bucher himself called me.
I explained to him the problem. he told me he was unaware of these problems (paint chipping and baits have different cheap plastic now) Tried telling me they hadn't changed anything and he didn't seem to believe me about Deprthraider issues.
I explained in detail what was going on. He sent me some replacement baits and they had same problem. Pic of front part of Top Raider (back fell off) that I attached picture of was one Joe himself sent me this is how it looked after about 45 days (not being used everyday either)
The original Bucher baits were very good and of high quality the newer ones not so much. I could care less about baits chipping paint but if baits are falling apart and getting holes in them that's not good.
Hopefully JBO sees this post and then maybe something will be done to fix problems. When sales go down maybe they will fix it??

And here are two pictures of Depthraiders the old ones have a hard clear plastic under them and are awesome baits. This one is almost 20 years old and has a ton of fish on it. (bottom bait in pic)
The other one is a new bait (top bait in pic) and has the new white thin plastic that does not hold up. You can see hole worn threw bait after 2 days of use (even with hooks T'd)
Not bashing just providing facts that people can do with what they want.

Bucher lures catch fish. Period. It looks like that TopRaider has had some serious use and should probably have been retired before losing the back half.

The plastic appears to be clear in the new one also. Maybe the white is primer? I honestly don't know but your argument seems to have some inconsistencies.

I have to ask what is the life expectancy of a lure and/or it's paint job. We've all had rubber lures destroyed after one fish... I don't know of any lures that carry a lifetime warranty.

Martin- TD
as stated the topraider was 45 days old- paint looked like that after 3 days of use. Probably had 10-15 fish on it
The back half of the new depthraider is all white thin plastic not primer.. its all white plastic all the way threw. The front half is clear like the old ones but the back is not.
The last 6 jointed depthraiders that I have bought (all different colors) have been the same way- Clear plastic on front half- white plastic on back and that's the plastic with problems.

Crazy- I just ran out to garage to look at my Depthraiders I don't have any old ones. And all my jointed ones have clear plastic on the front part and white plastic on the tail part and one has a hole I can see all the way in and it's all white. I never noticed that before. Wonder why they would use two different plastics on same bait.

THis is not a rip but...how many fish do you expect a bait to catch before the paint goes to H*ll?

Slamr- Paint was pealing off bait before it had its first fish. I already said I don't care about paint pealing the fish don't care. I just leave alone or spray paint. Some of my best baits have little to no paint on them..... I do care about baits falling apart or getting holes punctured by fish or worn threw after very little use.
Don't get me wrong I have had hundreds of fish in the boat on Bucher products, Including my first musky ever on a Buchertail bucktail. I still use them the old stuff is good.

From Joe Bucher a moment ago via facebook messenger:

Thanks for the heads up. Just sent this to the guys at JBO Joe Bucher Outdoors. By the way, just so you know - we are weeks away from opening our new Wisconsin manufacturing plant in Genoa City. We will then have total control over production.

*and he passed along a desire to try to get on here tonight and address this directly.

Inspect the front eyelet on the new depth raiders. The last four had the eyelets bent at about 20 degrees. I emailed Derek Koch and never got a response back after explaining the problem.

I love the baits, and they catch fish, but please, please bring back the quality of the original baits and paint!

When production moves I will definitely start buying his baits again, the shallow raider is easily my favorite twitch bait. The man can definitely design an effective lure.

I have also had problems with their baits. On the positive side of this, they know that there is a problem and they are working to fix it. I reached out to JBO and they sent me a new bait that day. I have also purchased a couple of baits where the paint came off that day, I took it back to the retailer, they knew there has been problems with the baits and they refunded me. They also informed me that JBO had pulled an replaced all of their inventory try to address the problem.

More from Joe Bucher (who was unable to sign in and create a user profile):

I am aware of the problems and urge ANYONE who has an issue with our lures to return them for replacements. Our long time assembler and painter passed away a few years back and his replacements haven't done nearly as good a job. The investment in a new local mfg plant is an effort to solve all these issues. The goal is to make great lures. And have happy customers. Joe

*SO, if you're having issues with your Bucher branded products, reach out to them.
