Posts: 389 Location: Northern Illinois | So, I was organizing my bucktails the other day and when I got the double 9/10s all laid out, it became apparent that I mostly have metallic blades with blackish skirts. Nothing wrong with that, but I need some brighter ones. What's the best brand and pattern that you have found for bright blades/flashabou tales?

Posts: 389 Location: Northern Illinois | I guess I should have said painted/fluorescent blades. With all the mostly silver metallic blades I already have, I think I need some bright colored blades.

Posts: 389 Location: Northern Illinois | I do have one Orange blade/black tail. Here's what I have so far. I guess I ended up with a couple of duplicate colors. Attachments ---------------- 9s_and_10s.jpg (180KB - 432 downloads)

Posts: 785 | Sky is the limit with how many blade combinations are available and all will catch fish. I'd get a blue-nickel cowgirl to complete your metallic selection and a pink-pink. From there I'd just be one the look out for skirts you like combined with bright painted blades (orange or chart). You definitely appear to be good on black so I'd look for brighter skirt colors to compliment the blades. I also would recommend getting a few with one painted blade and one metallic. I've had good luck with that combination as well. Black is a color you can never go wrong with but depending on water color and light conditions it doesn't hurt to go obnoxious with color from time to time.

Figure whether it's orange, chartreuse, or lime green that shows up best, flame blades have it. I've done well on LOTW with a double 10 with flame blades and black/chart skirt. Overall I'd say on most days if you didn't catch a fish on those bucktails you have chances are it isn't because you didn't have the right color. I still like when Bill Sandy told Jim Saric a few years ago on Musky Hunter that he just snaps a bucktail on and keeps throwing it till it falls apart. Tucker
