I am buying some new st croix premier rods and I know not all of them are two peice. The rod that want to get is 8'. So how do you guys transport your rods if your rod locker isn't big enough and the rods are one peice. I wanted some ideas of the ways other people do it because travel to fish a few times every year and quite a bit of stuff gets packed in my boat so I don't want to just lay the rod in the bottom of the boat. I guess I could buy a rod tube but I don't really want to do that for 1 rod. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

I usually put mine in my truck if traveling solo. It sits diagonal from the back drivers seat to the front passenger side. If not you can always pick up a piece of pvc pipe and cap the ends.

Thanks Muskie Kid I have a truck so I can't put it through the car like that. But I like the PVC idea, I was going to get a rod tube but they can be really expensive.

Don't have that problem. I have seen guys using PVC pipe to store the rods take reels off put rods in tube put end cap on and there good to go

Yea, defiantly going to go get some PVC and do that because it's only that one rod I can't fit (for now) eventually after I get more long rods I'll buy a rod tube thanks!

I travel a lot and they fit in my Tahoe but I still have a cloth rod cover so they don't get scratched up then put them either in a PVC or a hard cardboard tube like the ones Cabela's ships rods in if you order online. Can't afford to replace the expensive rods even if they have lifetime warranties like G Loomis or Phenix. Reg from SoCal

Hopefully someone on here has experience with ordering one peice rods. Is a 8' or larger rod consider oversized to have shipped to my house (will I need to pay extra). I figure I'll have to pay a little extra for shipping a full sizerod but just how much is it? I've never had a one peice rod shipped to me. I'll be ordering straight from st.croix or through cabelas (if that matters).

st croix you pay shipping unless it's a clearance rod in their bargain room. cabelas or other retailers you usually pay an extra $6 to ship a rod. sometimes cabelas has a promo code for flat rate or free shipping that includes rods. you can also ship to store for free with cabelas and bass pro.

I was charged an extra shipping charge for a 8ft telescope muskie rod. Cabela charges $8 extra. If two rods fit in a tube they only charge one $8 fee. I ordered a two piece 9ft rod and did not have to pay the extra charge.

If you don't want to remove reels for transport try the foam insulation that is used on water pipes. It is split so rod fits in easy and is wrapped in foam no banging around at all. Some rods have guides that are to large to be completely covered so check first. Cheap and prevents damage to rod with out the hassle of reel removal every trip.

normally shipping does get high until you break 9ft..then shipping jumps up a bit..This is exactly im looking for an upgrade in the boat dept that has serious Rod storage locker in the boat

Last week I shipped three 8' rods from Wisconsin to Minnesota and paid $37.00 before insurance was added. That was FedEx ground as USPS was considerably higher than that. As noted above, once you get to 9' (which means the length of the package, not the rod, it's gets ridiculous.

Me and my dad use a snowboard/ski rack and it works great.
