I was out on Walker Bay, Leech Lake for the first time this year. I was using a rental boat that had electronics on it. I spent a lot of time programming GPS coordinates into the gizmo (time that would have been more productive casting). Can the lake map chips that they make nowadays be used on different electronics? More specifically, would the chip that I put in the resorts electronics be able to be taken out and used in a different manufacturers electronics? I know that this is probably a stupid question, but I fished the majority of my life without the aid of electronics and this stuff is all new to me?

It depends on many factors between what chip and what companies. Many chips from 2008 work in all 2008 units, other newer chips only work in specific units. Need more infor for people to help ya

Yea, it was a poorly worded question. I was just wondering if those chips were universal, but I think you answered my question. I just don't want to buy one that works in the unit on the boat where I stay, but may not work on a different unit in the event that I go to a different resort with different electronics.

Ask the resort if they have a chip you can borrow. Most will.

Maps chips puzzle me. I have older units, they work great and i don't need to upgrade. I would like to buy more chips but knowing what used ones to buy is impossible to know.

I believe navionics are the most universal chip.
