I was just sitting around this morning and I pulled out my log book for 2003 and counted the number of days that I was out on the water in pursuit of greenfish. I added up the days and came up with 104!! The days range from 45 minutes a day to 15 hours per day but I can't add up my total hours since I skipped entry on more than a handful of days but I estimate more than 600 hours last year. That is equivalent to almost one solid month on the water 24 hors a day, so as I sit here looking out at over 2 feet of snow I can at least look forward to something in the very near future!! Bring on open water!!!!!!!!!

Muskydr,

Just as a point of interest, how many Muskies did you catch during your estimated 600 hours on the water? The reason I ask is I've been looking at reports from tournments and Muskie schools and computing average hours per fish per fisherman. Also it would help if you could tell me where, in general, where you fish. Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc.

Thanks.

Muskydr,

Thanks for the reply. Average of 16.7 hrs. per Musky, just about what most tournments and Muskie Schools are averaging. I've talked with several guides and they average between 15 to 20 hrs. per Muskie depending on where they are fishing.

600 hours? That's what I was shooting for last year, but I fell short. I had 656 hours (74 days on the water) in '02 and went down to only 507 hours (58 days) in '03. I'm going to have a hard time hitting 600 hours again, I think '02 was a fluke. So 500 is going to be the goal in the future.

Since I retired, I now spend 4 months on LOTW and 3 months on the Gulf of Mexico. I fish nearly 200 days per year. Life doesn't get much better. I pinch myself each morning. It's a good thing we don't always get what we deserve in life or it would rain every day and the boat would leak.
