Location: Crystal Lake, IL | Does it make sense to go to Webster, Tippy, James, etc. in the fall or should I focus my efforts elsewhere? Ralph- any luck fishin indiana the last few weeks? Might try the madison chain for the first time this fall...any thoughts? |

Location: Illinois-Indiana | Things are starting to pick up, with the water temps going down and fall just around the corner it will be PIGGY time.
I've been fishing it hard for the last few weeks and I'm starting to see more fish, last Sunday I had a 45" plus fish coming in hard on a topwater and ran out of realestate. (Just 15 more feet):( |

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I didn't fish Indiana waters last weekend, but the weekend before the fish started to move more and more.
Tippy and Webster showed me fish of 44-45 inches, with several others ranging from 30-40 inches.
I am fishing there tomorrow, Saturday, so I will let you know if anything happens.
Indiana waters are still loaded with fish, they are just harder to catch now. It is not the glory days of 5 years ago any more. You actually have to work for your fish just like any other lake.

Location: Crystal Lake, IL | Thanks Ralph! Keep me up to date as if the fish are moving. I'd love to visit the Webster area again especially if the fishing picks up. We went there last fall and fished 3 guys for 2.5 days and only had 1 pick up on a sucker and 2 follows on jerkbaits...not hardly like the old days when you would lose count of the follows before noon. Last year was real tough so now we are throwing out other options i.e. Madison chain, Farther North etc. Any report of fish moving in Webster will help me sell the idea to the gang. Thanks Mike.

Location: Syracuse, Indiana | Webster has been tough this year, but things may be picking up. I spent 90 minutes there Monday evening. Saw 5 casting, caught 1 (31")trolling. Water surface temp was down to 74.4. The Webster Lake Muskie Club is hosting a "guide-for-a-day" fundraiser this weekend. Hopefully there will be more to report after the event. |

For what it's worth here is a Summary of what Ben had to say...
A lot of basic stuff,....always have suckers out, his lures(docs, magic makers) and DDD, etc. He puts one sucker about 6 feet deep close to the boat and the other 15-20 feet back and deeper on the other side.
Webster is starting to turn....
Night time is always good up there in the fall...
The most interesting one to me was that.....
Shad should start to spawn in the shallows soon...fish are waiting for them to come to the shallows so try to take the boat shallow and bring the stuff back towards the shore. Bringing the lures toward the fish the way they're facing...
Ben's son has done almost all his guiding this summer in Barbie and has had good success.
That's pretty much it....nothing ground breaking, but definitely some helpful stuff.

Ralph...what boat are you in on Webster? My father is out there almost daily in a 18' Lund explorer SS grey. We are only about a year or two into the Muskie hunt so he and I will take any advice we can get.
Ben's a nice guy...have been out with him on Webster and got along real well.

| Yes, there is a shad migration in the fall. As the water cools the plankton that the shad feed upon blooms thicker in the shallows than over the basins. The shad will run the flats filter feeding on the plankton. Happens on the sunny areas. |
