Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Anyone else working thses baits REALLY fast? I start them zig/zagging across the top for the first few feet, then have them popping along in and out of the water about half the way back, then PAUSE, tap the bait down, then snap it back to the boat about a foot down. The Jerko in the picture was new before the Goon trip! The fish hammer the things so hard they set the hooks themselves. I catch lots of nice Pike using this technique, too. In fact, the second cast last night I popped a fish and was pretty disappointed when I saw the spots. We were fishing Rhinelander Muskie League, so I had great hopes when I set the hook! Norm was 'washing' his boat for awhile, and Sue and I couldn't get a muskie to move. We were not alone; only two fish were caught. Congratulations to Dick Borcier and Gene Frane for the 43.5" fish on a bucktail, taking the second Boom Lake event.

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Steve, I have never tried it with an undertaker but really love the fast hopping presentation with Jerko's and Reef Hawgs. I have found that they work best when some up and down darting is mixed with the side to side And you are right, when they hit these baits worked like that, they usually inhale them. |

Seriously though,
I work them both fast and slow depending on what the fish want. One thing about working them like you do is that you eliminate the nuteral/lazy follows. Pretty much they want it or they don't....darn effective at times and explosive strikes for sure.

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I work them pretty slow to painfully slow. If there's a fish around they'll show themselves when worked that way. If the fish are really going and hitting fast presentations I fish with something that doesn't weigh 4oz.
The Jerko is my goto bait last fall into this spring. Just can't keep'em hooked with them this year. The Jerko is usually the best hooking % jerk in the box for me. I just suck this year! |

| i just fished my new undertaker for the first time lst night. WOW! i fished it real fast like sworall is talking about and was extremely impressed with how erratic it was. jumping out of the water at times. lots of belly roll. didnt see any fish with it, but nothing else was showing them either.
why not fish them fast? they cast like a bullet and are real easy to work. definitely going to be a go to for me now. |

Location: oswego, il | I like fishing gliders fast in the summer. Undertakers fit that bill. So does a musky treats, slammer, magic maker, 6" phantom and crazy shad. I am sure there are more but these I can work very fast and erratic. |

| Working an Undertaker like Steve does is an "aquired" skill. You need to "aquire" some uppers in order to make it work. I tried it with him when I was up there and looked like I was having a seizure of some type.
I like to work them with a change in speed during the retrieve. I'll hit them with some quick taps then give a pause and then 4 or 5 slow taps. Then a pause and back to the quick taps. I think the change in speed coupled with the pauses does the trick. Usually once during the retrieve I'll give it one hard tap in order to get it to glide out farther.

| That very same technique worked for me yesterday. After a lazy jackpot follow I threw the undertaker as a toss back and after several pops the fish (40") inhaled the bait with a jolt. It was only my second muskie on an undertaker so I am still learning to work this bait. |
