I'm heading over to western WI for the August 3 Dead show in Apple River. Looks like I'm able to arrive a few days early and so I'll take my boat to explore new waters. Any suggestions? My 14' boat requires that I stay on smaller, safer waters. How about that St. Croix River?

MuskyOne, what do you say?

Many thanks.

Try Deer lake it is just shy of 900 Acres, it is a good lake with lots of action. Whatever presentation you want to try will work, as long as it is Perch colored. You have a lot of diverse structure, and nice weedbeds. It gets a bit Green as the summer wears on. You will have to share with other musky hunters as a good lake seldom stays a secret.

I may see you out there.

PS I have a log of my trips from the last couple of years if you are interested

Ranger,

Your only a stones throw from the Minneapolis/St.Paul metro muskie machine, pumpin out trophys one after another.
There are many great muskie lakes in the metro area....drop me a line and I'll give up a few of my honeyholes.

Listen to One, Ranger. He has some little honey holes over there that are PRIMO. Deer is a great choice, as is Bone and Round. Watch out for Deadheads though.

Hey just some more info for you. You can get a DNR lakemap from the DNR Website.

http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/lkmaps_a.htm

Depending on the length of my assigned "To Do" list I might be out On Deer that weekend. Blk/Gld Crestliner if you see me stop by and we can chat.

Ranger,
St.Croix would be another great choice, especially for your smaller rig. Those other WI lakes mentioned are all good. But, like PK mentioned, we have some great lakes here in the Twin Cities. I would be happy to share some spots for you as well. Maybe even be able to clear the "honey do list" by then, and be your personal guide to some awesome MN Muskies.

Let me know where you plan to go, I will point you in the right direction. I have been fishing Muskies for over 20 years and have lived in the north metro, so any lake/river in a three hour drive, has been fished.

Have fun at the concert!

Steve

Ranger,
I grew up in Stillwater and fished the St. croix a lot for skies!!! Good water, great summer bite. I am also headin to the Dead show! The Hulbert bros have stayed with me on a couple of occasions and we ALWAYS have a great time. They can't even make it up this summer to visit a brother. I would say if you are looking for follows and short fish, hit bone or deer. If you want size try Forest, Bald eagle, or White Bear in MN. If you want some spots on the croix hit me at [email protected]

KOMER - hit the link and find out the songs the band has been playing so far on tour. Cross your fingers for a "He's Gone" at the show.
