I recently made some flourocarbon leaders with Berkeley Cross Lok snaps. I am impressed with the leaders, but I do not like using the snaps. they are already looking worn and weakened after just a few times out. I have splitrings on all of my baits. What options do I have with the flourocarbon? Can I just put a splitring on one end of the leader that I can then attach to the splitring on the bait? What are the rest of you doing?

Thanks for the help.

Berkley's still scare me a little, they claim the quality has improved but I'm not totally convinced.

I use Rosco's they seem to be ok. Your split ring idea would work also..just make sure you include a ball bearing swivel some where in the equation for baits that can twist and need some freedom of movement.

I would recommend the Stay Lok snaps from stringease.com. They have a unique desing that seems to keep them from opening accidentaly, or under pressure from a big ski'....

Heard Thornes has those welded rings in stock. I would go with those on my knot and then split ring that to the bait. Been using Stringease since last season, no problems yet. The small size is a little too small and the big size seems a little too big. I go with the medium.

Starting this year I've been using flourocarbon 80lb - custom tied by MF's one and only "Ranger". I'm also using a new snap made by "Duke Snap"  this year- called "bulldog snap" . They are 80lb patented double spring design.  I love them. Great product!- contact Adam Schroeder (@ Duke Snap- 715-497-3510. Adam also has some other great Patented terminal tackle products, leaders, etc  and bucktails.  The bucktails come pakaged with a Duke Bulldog leader.

So far I've caught 3 Muskies on one flouro leader (39", 41", and 39.5")  - Plus numerous northern pike up in Canada. The 80lb flouro leader doesn't even have a nick in it.  Plus I firmly believe the Zalt's & Zam's really work much better on the flouro versus single strand or seven strand.

I have a few flourocarbon leaders that are rough to the touch. Are these still safe to use? Musky39
