you'd be parallel to one of the TM batteries as BN describes, essentially increasing the voltage on the entire 24V ckt. It could work...

exactly, I'd be just trying to get 1 of the TM's juice up (which is connected to the other anyway) to be able to stow the ulterra... think it would work... of course hope I don't need to try but it should in theory..?

Might work if it's right on the edge. If it doesn't work immediately, you could let that battery charge for a few minutes, then one by one charge the other two batteries for a few minutes each and see if that does the trick.

Any reports on 'cold weather' and the Ultera yet?
Could test it here the next couple days.:-(

I'll be testing my new Ulterra out on LotW the last week of October and offer a report when we return.

Current extended forecast is calling for below-freezing temps in the mid-20s most every night, upper 30s to mid-40s during the day. Water temps should be in the 40s and dropping steadily. Deploying at 25 degrees after an 8-10 mile run to start the day should proof it.

When motor trolling I put my bow mount electric in the water in order to use the transducer on my network. That means a lot of stow/deploy, plus adjusting the bow mount's depth so that it's in the water enough to read the transducer but without being at risk of a rock strike at 4mph. Our hope is to never need to open the windshield the whole week: hit deploy and start trolling, hit stow and go.

Of course, my Terrova will be in the truck as a backup, just in case.

Not sure if this is related to cold weather or just an MinnKota problem in general. I recently went on a 3 day trip about 4 hours from home. The first half day I used the Ulterra it worked fine. I put the boat in the second day and got to the first spot and was not able to turn on the power switch on the motor. I worked on it for over an hour on the lake and checked all the connections and couldn't find anything wrong. I stopped at a dealership who was a Minnkota repair facility and they checked things out and found that the power to the motor was fine so it needed to be something within the ulterra. I decided to go home as they didn't have time to work on it. I got about half way home and while making a stop I pushed the power button on the motor and it lit up and started working. Since I was near another lake I decided to fish and it worked fine for 6 hours or so. I loaded up again and went home and found that the next morning it would not turn on again but again had power up to the motor. I dropped it off at the Mankato Minnkota repair office and explained that it was just an off and on problem and was happening even though it had power right up to the motor. I got it shipped back to me today with a note saying it worked fine so it must be a wiring or battery issue. This is very frustrating. Good chance it will do the same thing on my next trip too.

One thing about Ulterras: Turn them on at the dock when you launch.

They will have a GPS fix when you deploy them for the first time that way. Otherwise you have to wait until they get the signal.

That sounds like a boat wiring issue of some kind.
I've got something goofy going on with my bow mount Humminbird: About half the time it shuts down or locks up when I start the big motor.

Everything else on the boat works great...

Zero issues here, all season. From mid March to now, never had a problem.

On this issue the dealer that installed mine used the power from the trim switch up front and it would kill the unit when I started the engine, as soon as I ran direct from the battery no issue's !

my Ulterra took a crap yesterday... when I hit the deploy button the arm went out, but it did not scissor...so it's in the shop.

Can you let us know what ends up being the issue? Wondering if this is just coincidental timing or something that was actually caused by the weather.

Mine worked flawlessly during my fall trip to Canada, but the weather ended up warmer than predicted and was only below freezing on one night.

Thanks for posting about the issue, BNelson. I really hope that these issues are fixed soon. I do want to get one, but not until they are reliable.

I have heard the belts on them go, with one guy having his break 2 x... it's a slick motor and worked flawlessly until yesterday... but like anything....good to have a backup.
