Posts: 463 | Looking at the map of Eagle, I'm liking the looks of the Staton Island / Bay area. Are their any resorts in this neck of the woods? Any reviews appreciated, Good Bad or Indifferent. Thanks

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Kind of a cool area.....navigation wise, may be the most challenging section of a lake I have ever seen though. Not that long of a ride to get down there from any of those resorts on the North Shore.

Posts: 962 | I stayed at North Shore lodge last summer and fished that area every day. Lodge was great and so was the fishing. Stanton Island area is a 10 Min ride at most from lodge. Scott runs a top notch camp and will go out of his way to help you. Northshore Lodge- 807-323-1468 Jeff Hanson madisonmuskyguide.com Edited by Jeff Hanson 1/11/2017 11:41 AM

Posts: 134 | i second what Jeff had to say... Last year was my first trip to shield water and my North Shore Lodge experience was excellent. The staton island/bay region is/was incredible and i have to agree with previous poster with regards to travel, it can be treacherous, but to that extent, find a way in and you'll have a trail on the GPS to navigate. my rule was once i had a route on my gps i could run but any deviations i just took it off plane and trolled up to the spots. There is a lot to pick through back there.

Posts: 8824 | I call it "the minefield". I've run through it with guides a bunch of times. We've also hit a bunch of #*#*, and these are guides who fish down there every week all season long. Good fishing, though. Muskies like lower unit graveyards.

Meanwhile, my biggest fish came off McCalls. Most fish I've ever seen in a day were in the weeds off Johnston's point, and one of the biggest I've seen was on the back side of Colonel's. I'll miss passing all the Temple Bay guys and the North Shore guys on their way to fish around AML, though. ![]() Edited by esoxaddict 1/19/2017 2:53 PM

Unfortunately, my days of "all the money in the world" are over. 50 days a year guided @ $400/day is not a luxury I can afford these days. It's me on my own, or not fishing at this point. Can't complain, really. Good woman, nice house, vacations, trips to Canada, still have the property in Presque Isle... 'bout time I went out there and earned my fish like the rest of us...

Posts: 341 Location: In the slop! | I never understood staying on the West side and fishing on the East side. If you're on the East every day, why not stay there? Think of the time as well as the gas. You could stay East and fish West, no?

Well...you can't always make a hot bite happen where you want it to happen. I've had a few trips up there with remarkably different patterns going on in different sections. Those who didn't take advantage of them didn't produce as well. Edited by Musky Brian 1/20/2017 3:54 PM

Location: Eagle Lake Vermilion Bay, Ontario | brian hit it on the head. with the uniquely diverse range of habitats and forage movements found in one system there is no one section that is the best all of the time or through all seasons and changing conditions on eagle, even from year to year st the same time. let the lake, the fish, experience, and your networking tell you when to and where to make lake sections changes and you'll be consistantly more successful. herbie

Posts: 463 | Update, ending up booking with Century Lodge for the July 8th - 15th. Seem to be in a decent section of the lake for earlier season lunge hunting. Anybody spend any time down that way? Do you think fish will have transitioned to mid lake rock reefs by that time , or still weed/ spawing bay / points leading into and out of related? I'm hoping to be camping on some quality fish, but will be willing to travel if we are not seeing what we are after.

Many years ago I used to go with my dad and grandfather to a river in early spring to fish for suckers that were running. No one really cared for the suckers but it was a rite of spring, snow melting and sun had some warmth. My grandpa went along for fun, didn't even fish. He pointed out that we cast towards the other side of the river and the guys on the other bank cast towards our side.

Posts: 98 Location: Tulsa, OK | North Shore is a great camp in a great location. Scotty is a great guy and will help you out. You can spend all day running around the Stanton & Colemans area. And when that gets slow, you are a couple of minutes from Boulder Bay area. There is so much to fish it is unbelievable. Eagle can be a finicky lake that really has 3 distinct "lakes" within the lake. Osbourne is dark water whereas the West End is very clear water. The water in between these two is a mix of the dark and clear water. Don't pass up all the main lake reefs between North Shore and Stanton, lots to fish just getting there.

Posts: 98 Location: Tulsa, OK | Osbourne bay is loaded with spots as well. Make sure to check out the rapids on the way to Nivens while you are there. The nice thing about Osbourne is the secluded spots that you can kind of stay out of wind on windy days. Dark water makes it hard sometimes to see fish coming in, so make sure to do several figure 8s on each cast.

Posts: 8824 | BNelson - 2/23/2017 1:19 PM 50 days a year guided and you stilllll don't have a 50" yet EA?? sheesh! :) You can bring your client to the fish, but you can't stop them from screwing up! ![]() So far to my shame I have: one that ripped the back off my bucktail and never got hooks. Swam by with a mouth full of fluff. one that followed 13 times over a few days and never opened its mouth. one that came up from under the boat after about 3 turns just as I was pulling the bait out of the water. one that ate right at my feet causing me to bumble the hookset one that the guide saw eat and yelled "you got her!" that I didn't see or feel and failed to set the hook on. one that came unpinned going into the net. one that ate and swam right at me, faster than I could reel. And the worst one ever... One of those big blond ones, coming to eat. Yep. I got this one... With that my girlfriend started jumping up and down in the boat yelling "HOLY S%&*, HOLY *$*&!! YOU GOT HER!!!" Fish took off so fast it actually left a cloud of poop in the water. Nobody spoke for at least an hour. I figure I'm about due, since I've made every mistake possible. Posts: 642 Location: mount prospect illinois | I too would suggest North Shore Lodge. You are near big water and it is 10 minutes from the lodge. Much of these videos are close to Stanton Island. We've been to Lac Seul 5 times and have chosen to book with Century Lodge in 2017 as well. A bit closer to home, remote location (outfitters not stacked up on each other), heavy musky population and still some decent walleye fishing convinced us. I am looking forward to reading your report....we'll be there the 2nd week of Sept.
