Posts: 48 | Need to replace my GY Marathons. Had planned to replace them with another set but have had two shops recommend the Tow Max Str2. I was told today " all trailer tires are made in the same factory in China" - so you can pay $30 more per tire for the name or save some money for the same quality. Any input here? Thanks in advance.

Posts: 44 Location: Ohio | I highly doubt all Chinese trailer tires are made in the same factory. Coming from somebody who works in the tire business. If you had good luck with Marathons, why not go back with the same?

Posts: 3480 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, The overall construction of the tires are pretty much the same, but the quality is where things are different. I have had maxxis tires, Marathon tires, and currently run Tow Master tires from discount tire. All of the sets of tires have performed well for me and the only tire that I experienced a blow-out on was the marathon. They were about 5 years old as well. The original tires (the maxxis) lasted the shortest amount of time, whereas my current tires (towmaster) have been on around 5 - 6 years. They are getting close to being due for change, but not from tread wear...but from age. Tow max should do just fine, so long as they are properly inflated, have the correct weight capacity for your trailer, and your trailer axle is in alignment. Steve

Posts: 20218 Location: oswego, il | Does anyome make a 12" radial for trailers? Would like them for my little boat. I put maxxis tired on my crestliner trailer after a maraothon blew out. Like above was 5 years old.

Posts: 1638 Location: Minnesota | I wile back this was discussed. Some one mentioned to put light truck tires on . They said trailer tires are speed rated. Ive never had a issue. whenever im on the highway i cruise at 80 to 85 never had a blow out . But it did get me thinking a bought how fast im towing so how many people run light truck tires?

Posts: 3480 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Todd, I think you'd have a hard time finding radials in 12". What you may be able to do though is go to a larger 12" tire in 5.30x12 in load range c. Definitely helps... Steve
