Posts: 192 | I have a older silver revo 60 in 5.4:1 what's the difference between the older silver ones and the newer toros and nacls? Are the older ones any good compared to the new ones?

Posts: 425 Location: MN | My understanding is the original revo toro and nacl are very similar for our purposes - I don't know if the guts relevant to muskie fishing were changed much, but I could be wrong. Apparently there were some additional corrosion resistance measures taken that would have more of an impact on saltwater anglers. The handles changed but I believe the radius of the toro power handle and the nacl handle are the same. In both of those old lines, the 60 models were just a wider version of the 50. The newest line has more models and the 60 sizes are taller rather than wider than the 50s, resulting in a more complicated array of IPT possibilities. The gears in the new lines are bigger than the nacl and original toro. I believe all the gears except the maxtoro are stainless, the maxtoro being brass - someone please correct if that is wrong. The power handles are of a larger radius than the nacl. The levelwinds in these new models disengage during freespool - general feedback (and my experience too) is that gives you extra casting distance. Also, issues with the nacl thumb bar have supposedly been addressed in the new models. In my mind those are the key differences of the new line up. The IPT for comparison: Revo Toro 50/51/60/61 Winch: 21" Revo Toro 50/51/60/61: 26" Revo Toro 50/60 HS: 31" NaCl 50/51/60/61: 26" NaCl 50/60 HS: 31" Maxtoro 50/51: 26" Revo Toro S 50/51: 26" Revo Toro S 60/61: 29" Beast 50/51: 24" Beast 60/61: 27" Beast 50/51 HS: 31" Beast 60/61 HS: 34" Rocket 60: 42" Personally, I own an NaCl 51 and just got a Beast 50 HS. Both reels are nice, but the beast casts significantly further and and I really like the larger radius handle. I've had the NaCl break a few times - if the beast holds up better I would say it's a substantially better reel and worth the additional cost. If there was a high speed 50 size in the cheaper lines I would love to try that.

Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | In a nutshell, the big differences is drag and in the case of the Beast a really cool drag that can be adjusted under extreme pressure, and much more substantial gearing. I have a Max Toro too, and really am impressed with that reel for the money. It's held up well, casts like a dream, is very smooth, and overall is a pleasant reel to use. Best entry priced muskie reel ABU has ever built.
