I have an Ambassadeur Tournament Pro 6600 CL. The thumbar is getting very hard to push, especially when there's a little tension on the line, (ie, weight of a dangling lure). What gives? How do I fix it? Any guidance appreciated.

sounds like a good cleaning is in order. lots of very good repair places have been mentioned on here, pikemaster is one of them.

It may need a cleaning - the dirt built up in the corners of the thumb bar may be causing the problem, but more than likely there is a pin that runs along the bottom side of the thumbar and that has a very small c-clip that helps prevent it from moving back and forth - and that may be missing. That pin also may be bent, plus the thumb bar itself also may be cracked. Hope this helps!

I did clean the reel at the beginning of the season, but it didn't help the problem. I'll have to pull it apart and look at it and see if I can see the pin you're referring to. thanks!

I have one of those reels as well. Mine does the same thing. Any tension put on the spool, the thumb bar becomes extremely difficult to press down. I don't always rely on my drag when fighting a fish preferring to put the reel in free spool using thumb pressure. I believe it is the way the reel was designed?? Don't know for sure, but I no longer use it. Kdawg

Hmm.. maybe it's a design thing and she's run her course. I used it for quite a few years without any problems. The thing is built like a tank, so I was hoping to salvage it.
