Location: Delavan, WI | I'm a huge fan of wood lures and have several 48+ caught on wooden baits, but just came to realize all 3 of my biggest fish came in on hard plastic. I will list manufacturers as follows
Drifter. 51.25
Bucher 51.50
Grandma 53
Any input on this? |

| Maybe a wood lure has had larger fish hit it but they can sink there teeth into it like rubber and impeded a good hookset or maybe plastic is louder? |

| Trolling--I love wood cranks. Caught way more 50"+ on wood.
I can tune them easier to walk or wander.
Have caught some big fish on Jake's and Believers but nothing close to what I've caught or netted on Muskie Trains
Had some big fish on Loke's also (wood)
Casting-- its a toss up. I love twitching 10" Jakes (longest musky I've ever seen followed a Jake) but have done very well on Big Games (Balsa) some days they want the plastic some days wood...

Location: davis,IL | This is an interesting thread, I make my own lures and have so for many years. Wood vs plastic... hhmmm.... Well I've made some of my best basic jerks/cranks from wood.... But they don't hold up as well.... Have made some duplicates from plastic that work very well... but generally speaking ...they are not quite the same. I love wood for some of its properties... when you make a hit here, its a home run. Plastic... its easier to replicate...but not the same. |

Location: Freedom, WI | Wood will make the odd one that does something a little different, either the wood or the bait maker did something a little different. Plastic if done the right way can be just as good but it is a lot of work to get it right. Different plastics like different woods make a difference. |

Location: NE Ohio | no two wood lures are the same, no matter how close they appear to be. i have wood lures that have been hit so much there are just specs of paint left on them, but keep on catching. i run them right next to a new duplicate lure and most of the time old faithful gets hit. its a love/hate relationship.......love them when they are working and hate to retire them when they get worn out and don't run right anymore.
plastics are more durable and easier to duplicate by the maker. catch alot of fish and 90% run the same.
i always run both and let the fish tell me what they want, there is just never and easy answer in muskie fishin! |

| we build wood,and urethane solid foam lures. consistency is key. as for plastics,there also a great tool. in todays world most plastic lures with re-cycled material in them can have issues. then theres the Asian knock-offs. 90 per-cent crap.. my personal opinions still wood after 40 years in the game..the hobby builder can shape and paint without molds or dies. |
