Headed up to the Walker Bay side of Leech Lake in a few weeks to fish muskies. I've been flirting with the idea of picking up a couple of Wades Wobblers for my trip. I've heard these are good baits out on Leech. Any opinions as to size (9" vs 10"), weight (weighted vs unweighted, and colors/patterns) would be appreciated.

Not just a good Leech Lake bait. They are good all over the muskie range. Go with the floating 9 and 10 inch, Add a insert to them so you can add the screw in weight systems.
Great dive and rise bait. Cuts thru weeds and backs up an out of them. If you are crashing them into rocks the nose will get beat up.

I purchased the 9 inch unweighted version from the man himself at a Muskie's Inc. event a few years ago. I pretty much fish Leech exclusively and asked Wade to suggest a color. He said "Walleye" without hesitation. I had two upper 40-inch class fish up on it the first time I used it. It's been in the starting lineup ever since. For Walker Bay, I think I'd go with the weighted version. Good luck.

I don't have any experience on Leech, but Wade's Wobblers are typically my first choice for a dive/rise jerkbait. Hard pulls followed by abrupt, accentuated pauses can be deadly, although it's hard to use bait incorrectly with any type of traditional jerkbait retrieve. I best like the unweighted versions in all the different sizes, though we've done well with the 10" weighted in the fall. The weighted ones don't have the "back up" of unweighted ones, although they obviously achieve greater depths and work well in their own right. These are wood baits, obviously, so there can be some subtle variation bait-to-bait as far as buoyancy and action, though we've rarely had any "duds". Great bait.

Get the ones with the bucktail hair on the back treble hook. If they dont have any of those left, i recommend putting some bucktail hair or flashabou on it yourself. Gives the bait a little spice to it while its diving and rising. I like the 10 inch version.
Gets 5 stars from me.
