I was out on Monday night, great night, released some nice fish. One of them, though, was a very tough release. Had to take her shallow and get her under a pier and babysit her while she got her strength back. Other releases were fine, but those were smaller fish.

As the sun went down, the little wind we had died. I saw surface water temps rise to 79.5 degrees when I pulled out at dusk. I made the personal decision to stop fishing them after that trip, until the water cools down.

After yesterday and today, my guess is that temps will be over 80 and we know that those conditions are tough on fish.

I've heard that a very good, and very busy, local guide has cancelled trips for the foreseeable future to give the lake time to cool down. That's how important this is.

Please hang up the musky gear for a while and assault some bass or gills. Or head to the harbor and try your luck on Great Lakes fish. Let's let the lake cool down and then go get 'em in a couple of weeks.

My boat is in the shop getting a little work done on the electronics. When I get it back, I'll be on the big lake, too! I'm pretty excited to get after some kings and browns.

Shut down my guiding after Tuesday. Great day on the water with 5 muskies caught and released. Biggest was a nice clean 46.5 inch fatty. Water temps made it over 80 degrees with only more heat on the way. Canceled two weeks worth of guide jobs for starters. Not the most popular guy with a couple guys but that's the chances you take when you book mid July dates. I mention the heat break everytime people want to book late July. It happen, that's life.
Please take a break with the others who care about the area lakes.
I'm going to battle some Kings tomorrow moring before light under the big moon!!!
