Is there anyway to shade the depth contours different color blues or to make the lines darker on the elite locators. I have tried everything and can't figure it out.

No, the depth shading is only a HBird feature.

Check out page 43 of the manual here (I think this is correct). I know it is indeed a feature on the HDS units, as I've got it on mine, so I believe you can. I'm not sure if you need a compatible map chip for that, however. In the manual it shows it under the Jeppsen and Navionics map areas.
