| I currently have a St. Croix Sling Blade and Big Nasty, both w/ high speed reels on them.
Question for those that have experience with the Thorne Bros. Heavy Predator - do you think having one 8'9'' to 9' Heavy Predator will do everything these two rods can do? I would use it for burning blades (8s to 10s), topwater, cranks, and mid-size rubber (no pounders). I'm thinking I wouldn't be missing any application by having one H Pred vs. these two Croixs.
I do have an XH rod that I use for pounders and big blades (12s and 13s).
Thanks all for your opinions/experiences with the rod!

Location: Minnesota | I have a 9 foot H predator I use for blades. The tip is a little soft for 10s next one I have built I'll have them cut 2 inches off the tip. The predator is a great blank talk to Lonnie what you want the rod for and let them build you a custom rod that fits your needs. |

Location: Smith Creek | Standard Pred H is too light for burning 10's in my opinion. The one I used was very similar to the sling blade but a little slower in action, definitely lighter in power than the big nasty.

| You already have two of the same rods, sling blade and Big Nasty. The only difference is 6 in. in length. Both rods can handle the same lures. I don't see what a predator is going to do for you. I would pick up a different power in a rod first. |

| I think his point was why trade two rods for one.
I would rather have a D10 on my sling-blade and a mag dawg ready on a second rod than change lures on one rod unless I had a really small boat. Those two Croix rods are a great one two punch and the Nasty will throw pounders. Stick to what u have IMO. |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I only fish two rods, a 7'6 XH that I use for jerkbaits/gliders plus top waters and a 9'XH Predator that I throw everything else with. Unless you just really want to have another setup, I see no reason to get a H when you already have an XH. I throw everything from suicks, 4" twinkies, and Mepps Musky Killers up to pounders. And sure it's nice having a rod built for you, but at the end of the day my 9' XH doesn't put anymore fish in the boat then my brother in-laws 9' XH TI rod. |

| I have a 400D on my 9' XH for big rubber/13s/dive and rise, and will have a high speed reel on the H for burning smaller blades/topwater.
I agree though, my XH will throw anything I want. It's really about having two setups, one for 'smaller' stuff that I can really move with a HS reel, and then chucking the big stuff with the XH/400. The 400 isn't a slow reel, but you can by no means BURN baits in like you can with a true HS reel. |

Location: Contrarian Island | if it were me, I would not get rid of 2 rods to go with 1... Customs are great and all but the price tag to me I don't think they are worth it... Big Nastys are a great rod for burning 10s, big plastics etc... Sling blade is a great night bucktail rod, slow moving topwaters, smaller bucktails...why would you want to limit your rod selection from 2 to 1? Get another St Croix of some sort that fits what you are looking for .. 3 rods are better than 1...  |

| Decisions...
I dunno guys, we'll see. I could always keep one of the St Croix, too. I've always had 5+ rods in the boat, and I'm starting to lean away from that. Especially if I am hopping in a buddy's boat for the day/week.
I definitely have appreciated everyone's opinion. |

Location: Minnesota | If you all ready have 5 set ups go custom. I started out with St Croix rod's great rod's nothing wrong with them .but as I got into musky fishing I wanted a custom rod for buck tails then rubber then big rubber and so on and so on. If I jump in someone's boat I can get by with just 2 rod's. But if you can afford a custom rod get rid done |
