Fellas,

Im taking a trip to Eagle Lake ON in a few weeks and am looking to see what the masses are using/recommending. I have an older Navionics Hotmaps Premium North that I picked up a few years ago to run in WI which has the lake outline but low to no real detail. i have been all over the navionics website trying to figure out if any of there new products have more detail . Guy in our group is running hotmaps platinum and suggested i try and find one. Im running lowrance electronics.

1. am i chasing my tail trying to find a chip with contours?
2. what are you guys using?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

There is a Navionics Hotmaps for Canadian lakes. It's what I use on LOTW.

Right... and i know different areas/lakes have different levels of detail. For example, when I open up the navionics page and go into their web app, the area for lake of the woods you are referencing has HD 1 ft contours for most of the lake. When you scroll over to eagle lake in the web app there is very little. I would assume if navionics had hd maps of eagle they would show on their web app.

I guess im just looking to see if the "upgrade" in products will be worth the money.

They dont have HD, you are stuck with what you got... I use navionics north which is not the greatest by far. Be there the 9th of July to explore some more!

The older Navionics has more detail than anything new they have, for Eagle Lake. I have a 2009 North chip that shows I think down to 5 ft. contours. I purchased an updated Canada chip in 2013 thinking there would be more detail and "updates", and found Eagle to have no contours. I contacted Navionics to verify that there wasn't a problem with either the chip or my graph, and to see if I could return the chip for a refund and they told me there was nothing wrong with the chip, and I was out of luck in regards to a refund. Will never buy Navionics again.

You can see the latest from Navionics on the web app follow this link https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#@11&key=%7DvenH%7C%7DewP
You can check out the Nautical or Gold base map and the Higher Def SonarChart Layer by clicking on the icon on he lower left. Canada mapping is difficult because of restrictions on companies mapping.

Just a heads up the new Navionics+ and Nav Updates covers all of US and Canada with Gold/Nautical charts and then you download the SonarChart Layer for the areas you fish

What Sonar are you using?

Kirth, what do you mean download? I am not trying to hijack the post, but I am also looking at getting the Nav chip that covers North America or lakemaster chips for WI and MN. I have a Helix 9 and I am more looking for lake detail rather than the features I can use on the chip/locator.
