I have been shopping for a new sonar/gps unit and am quite interested in the new Lowrance elite 7 TI.

Does anyone have experience with this or other touch screen Lowrance units in cold weather? Has anyone had problems with the touch screen not functioning when weather is cold?

Also what about water on the screen. My smartphone doesnt like it when I try to use it with wet fingers while fishing which made me wonder if the touch fishfinders would have the same issue.

Any information that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I have two hds9 touches. They work best in sunlight and warm. They will not work with gloves on. Wet doesn't seem to affect them but like you said if your fingers are cold it gets a bit dumb. However there are tricks for my hds gen 2's that I would bet they share with the rest of there line up. The "soft key bar" can be set to slide away after 15 seconds without use, that slide away to hide was my biggest issue with cold fingers. (Sliding the soft keys away makes the map, sonar, si, excetra larger to benefit from all of the screen) Also the pages button if you push it more than just once will scroll through my custom pages ie; sonar, gps, sonar gps split, side sonar split excetra... And the zoom bar I would always leave on the map side so in reality there is no reason to touch the screen other than to stop si sonar and just tapping works good even cold. Also pushing the power button more than once dims the display 25% at a time. Once I figured out these tricks there was no more issues for me. Touch screen sonars like this make it very easy to customize your splits and information how you like it very easily! I wouldn't be scared of touch screen.
