I'm going to need to replace carpet in my x190 in the next few years. I'm considering doing the whole thing in sea deck for easy maintenance purposes. My biggest question is what it looks like under the existing carpet? If bare fiber glass what would be the best way to prep all the areas so it looked right with the gaps in the sea deck?

Hey Chain Gang,

I redid the carpet on my Tuffy Stinger two winters ago...big project, but fun at the same time.

To answer your question 1st, underneath the current carpet, the fiberglass is a relatively smooth finish, but will be yellowed from the contact cement that is used to hold the carpet down. Unless you plan on painting underneath the sea deck, it may look a little "choppy." If you decide to abandon that idea and re-carpet...I highly suggest calling Tuffy and getting supplies from them. I have the luxury of living 40 min away from Lake Mills, WI where they are made. There were a couple different instances were Wanda (works in the shop there) stayed later to let me come in cut off the carpet I needed (she already knew how much and how to cut out the "larger rolls"), provided the contact cement, plenty of stainless fasteners/washers, new rub rail, transom capping, etc...the list goes on. Any way, she and the rest of the folks there are extremely helpful and nice.

I have actually even tried calling Tuffy back up when I was done with my project to see if there was some recognition program for customer support I could nominate Wanda for (they didn't have one). Point is...their customer service was top notch and prices from the shop were cheaper than box stores/online.

If you want to paint the floor after getting it down to the glass, use a two part epoxy paint and sand the floor with 600 grit in advance.

Steve, have you ever seen this done... Wondering how it looks. I know ranger started to use it in their cockpit area. What are your thoughts?

If the carpet wraps round the hatch lids they might be a bit of a loose fit without the carpet?

I tore the carpet out of my magnum last fall and used bedliner material.
