Ok, this is more for salmon fishing than muskies, but I suppose it could work for that too: looking to buy/build a light pole in the 7-9' range that can be mounted in the front seat base with a big ole LED or halogen light on the top. Have that light pointed down and towards the back of the boat to illuminate the whole back of the boat so I can tie knots/set lines/dare I say net fish. Can power the thing either by running a cord to the rod locker/battery box or it could be self-powered (ie. internal batteries).

Any ideas, thoughts, you have done something similar?

Shadows might be an issue.

They make remote controlled spotlights that fit into your front nav light base, you could just extend the rod length to make it higher for your purposes.

I have seen a lot of walleye guys who troll at night with stanchion mount light fixtures in their boat. Must just connect to 12V power and use a 12V lamp. Looked like it worked pretty well.

I'd take one of these

I'd mount it to ???

And use Schedule 40 1-1/4" PVC for the post. I would think you could just tie it into the switch for your bow and stern lights and run the wiring up through the seat post hole and through the pipe.

I used one of those 9W RGB floods tuned to red on the pontoon boat, used a squeeze clamp to anchor it to the white anchor light or rails as needed. Can wire it to a cigarette lighter plug or use a couple alligator clips to go to the battery, they have a wireless remote to turn on/off or change colors. I used red because it doesn't wreck your night vision or draw bugs as much...

The PVC for the pole is the way to go, I had a pole on the rear casting deck seat base for a few years that I used for a camera mount. All I added was a few wraps of gorilla tape to make it fit more snug in the hole. Good luck with the project.

Can't you just turn the lights on in the garage?

#*#*, that's right. Need to call the electrician and have the garage rewired...

I ran 16 foot RGB LED strips down each side of my boat. Unhooking a fish at boat side with those on a lighter color kicks ass. Having them cycle through many different colors on a fade or rapid flash makes your boat look like a UFO from a distance.

Maybe that's not something you want to do so this idea might work better. Go to a Walmart and pick up a pair of accent lights from the automotive section. Put them on a RAM plate and wire them up with a 12v accessory plug. Now you have a moveable light (if you have some extra RAM balls laying around) that will do the trick. They pack up small so they'll be out of the way more than a taller light pole. They are flexible so you can aim them in a different direction for other tasks and they work as a great spotlight if you need one. The only downside is if you get halogens they'll get awfully warm so you don't want to grab them by the light.
