Posts: 364 Location: Vilas County, WI | After 2 years of waiting/planning my Elk Hunt this October in New Mexico, I was just informed by my outfitter I did not score a tag... however some others in my group did. Beyond annoyed!! So I have 8 days of vacation and a few bucks burning a whole in my pocket for mid October. Turns out my Elk Hunt happens to be the same time as the Ramsell. I emailed VDL and spots are still available. I searched the boards here and only one other thread exists about the outing. Anyone care to share their experiences? Good/bad/indifferent? I have never been to the V so I have no idea what to expect. Nor do I know anything about VDL; only what I've found on the internet. Any thoughts, opinions etc would be appreciated. Feel free to PM if you'd like. Thanks, Big Show Edited by TheShow 5/4/2016 5:19 PM

| I've been to a number of the Ramsell outings. It's nothing short of spectacular!!! Ed at VDL runs a first class joint! Cabins are clean and up to date. The food is probably the best part. Ken, the cook, serves up perfect comfort food every night and killer breakfast in the AM. Lunch is brown bag(it might be subway now if memory serves). The other great part is a nightly guide panel and speaker. The event is all about info sharing and guides tend to share good info. The Ramsell presentation is always super entertaining with giant fish pics and cool tracking info. Last time I went Doc Sonar gave an awesome presentation. The Q & A went longer than the presentation! The last time I heard the price I was shocked. I'm sure its gone up a bit but it seems like an amazing value! You will definitely won't be disappointed! | |||

Posts: 489 | Great value for what you're getting. Like Ben said, very clean well run resort. Food is great, speakers are great, and there are plenty of prizes. Fishing really depends on the weather... That time of year the colder the better.

Posts: 3163 | Your a hunter,,,bring your shotgun the grouse hunting around vermilion is fantastic I go up there with guys in the fall fishing and take them out for a day grouse hunting and they never pick up a rod the rest of the trip they had so much fun. I have two buddy's who went on the ramsell and both loved it,,but now they would rather spend half their time grousing,, Sign up for the ramsell and .Bring the boat and the shotgun for a fabulous vacation Edited by happy hooker 5/4/2016 7:20 PM

Hey Ben, You forgot to mention the legend in his own mind.....Marty !

| I did forget about Marty! His amazing knowledge of V and it's surroundings is second to none! Not only can he point you in the direction of some Vermi slobs, he also knows every drink special and local "wildlife" hotspot. Invaluable for the single attendees!! Plus he'll almost certainly still be wearing flip flops...northwoods fashionista!! | |||

Posts: 34 | Everything Ben and everyone has said is spot on. They've also added more 'dock side' events. Some are dock side seminars but a lot of them are just one-on-one. If you don't know how to work a particular bait or want to try a bait you haven't thrown before, having a problem with your rod/reel combo that you need help with, need help understanding your electronics or whatever....just ask! With all the guides and staff around there no question goes unanswered. Ed has also moved all of the meals and events up to the new 'shed' on the hill instead of cramming everyone into the main lodge. This is a big, bright, awesome facility for an event like this. Ed usually does a couple raffles for guides as well so you might get to spend time in the boat with Matt Seifert, Bob Benson, Luke Ronnestrand, Larry Ramsell or whomever. I've been to a lot of muskie events and this is hands down the most fun and informative.

After all his nickname is "Cheese" If any of you guys see him at a local bar, do yourself a big favor and hang within hearing distance of him.....He is extremely entertaining and full of the latest knowledge of what's happening on the Lake. Posts: 364 Location: Vilas County, WI | Thanks for the replies here and the PM's. Made my reservation earlier this week. Myself and a partner will be making the trek from S/E WI. We'll arrive Tuesday and depart Sunday. We're first timers for the Ramsell and have never been to Vermilion. Ed recommended hiring a guide for Tues or Wed so I'll be looking into that next. We're looking forward to the trip! Thanks again, Show

Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | There are videos on youtube shot at the Ramsell outing. I think Keyes Outdoors has done a couple of shows on it and there are other video's too. They should give you a good idea of the event.

Very skilled drink coaster thrower as well. I think Marty can be on the "Disk Golf" Olympic team based on his extreme accuracy with throwing coasters in a bar. He's a good Shnit. G-Rome
