Posts: 222 | When I start my big engine my dash and front electronics shut off, my big motor has its own battery and the electronics are hooked up to there own battery so why would this problem happen & yes the electronics are hooked up through the fuse panel in the dash. Thanks Darren

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | Yeah, something has the two batteries connected somewhere. Whats happening is you are pulling the voltage down under 11 volts on your electronics battery when cranking. For laughs try disconnecting your electronics battery and try cranking the motor and see what happens. What all this tells me is; 1. The two batteries are electrically linked.' 2. Your cranking battery has a bad connection or is puked. 3. Keep doing this without fixing and you'll find the problem point the hard way with some burnt wiring. Thinking about it some more your problem could also be the electronics battery. So if it cranks ok with electronics battery disconnected, try unhooking the starter battery and see if your boat electronics operate. Point is you have a bad connection or puked battery somewhere between the two. Edited by muskydope 6/3/2016 6:01 AM

Posts: 222 | There is a 4 bank charger on the boat that is hooked up 2 leads for the trolling motor batteries then one goes to the starting motor battery and the other goes to the electronics battery.

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | Well what it sounds like is happening is that one battery is drawing from the other. Another quick check is to turn on your locator and see what it displays for battery voltage. Start the motor and check again you should not see any difference in voltage if they are truly separated. Check for a loose or corroded battery connection, I still think that's probably the problem. otherwise one of the batteries are bad, and your pulling voltage off the good battery to help make up the shortfall in the bad battery.

There ya go. There's your connection. Ok, that's the symptom. The disease is you've got a low battery in the set. I admit, I've got one now on my boat, but battery dealers on the island are limited and I'd have to order and wait for a new one. So when I go to start my motor, I dim my HDS 8 units so they draw less amps and they stay on. Motor starts, I brighten the screens. When I get to buy a new battery, it'll be fine.
