I have icon and even an old Lowrance VHF that is still going strong through a lot of hard use.

Ditto on the Icom. I ran Icom radios on the east coast in my saltwater boats for 20+ years and I have another one now in my boat out in mn. Never had a problem with them. Standard horizon makes a decent marine radio as well. Also in my opinion, Shakespeare makes some of the best marine radio antennas.
